World Education Inc. /Bantwana (WEI/B) is implementing the five- year USAID
funded BETTER OUTCOMES for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern Uganda.
The goal of the project is to improve the wellbeing of children and youth
orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and other adversities in Eastern and
Northern Uganda. BETTER OUTCOMES is implemented by a consortium of five
partners, namely: WEI/B as the prime partner; Mercy Corps, Uganda Women’s
Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), Youth, Alive and Friends of Christ Revival
(FOC-REV); each responsible for specific technical aspects of the project. The
project is being implemented in 20 districts of Eastern and Northern Uganda.

Job Summary: The Accountant
will provide support in instituting accounting controls, recording and
reporting of assets, liabilities and income and the monitoring of disbursements
of donor funds in support of the country program.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent maintains general ledger
accounts by reconciling accounts receivables and control accounts,
analyzing and reconciling payable ledgers. - Tasked with handling day to day accounting
transactions - In charge of the preparation of staff
payroll and payment of staff salaries - Responsible for preparation of monthly
accounts to head office including updated QuickBooks database and
supporting documents for all transactions. - Tasked with the preparation and submission
of monthly Statutory returns to relevant government Agencies (PAYE, NSSF
and other taxes - Send timely submission of monthly budget
and Cash requests to Head Office to avoid disruption of project activities
due to insufficient cash balances on a monthly basis - Reconcile bank accounts timely on a
monthly basis - Provides financial status information to
management for decision making whenever required. - Corrects errors and prepare adjusting
journal entries. - Secures financial information by
completing database backups; keeping information confidential. - Maintains internal accounting controls by
following policies and procedures of the organization, complying with
USAID and local financial legal requirements, prepare journal entries. - Complete general ledger operations
- Send monthly closings and preparation of
monthly financial statements - Assist with year-end close outs
- The incumbent will also administer
accounts receivable and accounts payable - Provide support in planning and budgeting
- Assist with preparation and coordination
of the audit process - Assist with implementing and maintaining
internal financial controls and procedures
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant for the USAID Project Accountant
job placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
with accounting/finance major from a recognized institution, or related
field; a profession accounting qualification will be an added advantage - A minimum of six years of increasingly
responsible experience in financial management. - Vast experience finance and accounting
work with a reputable international NGO. - Computer literacy i.e. experience in using
QuickBooks - Keen attention to detail, ability to
multi-task and work under pressure - Strong analytical and inter-personal
skills - Ability to prioritize, meets deadlines and
work on multiple tasks
