non-profit that discovers and promotes effective solutions to global poverty
problems. IPA brings together researchers and decision-makers to design,
rigorously evaluate, and refine these solutions and their applications,
ensuring that the evidence created is used to improve the lives of the world’s
poor. In recent decades, trillions of dollars have been spent on programs
designed to reduce global poverty, but clear evidence on which programs succeed
is rare, and when evidence does exist, decision-makers often do not know about
it. IPA exists to bring together leading researchers and these decision-makers
to ensure that the evidence we create leads to tangible impact on the world.
Since its founding in 2002, IPA has worked with over 400 leading academics to
conduct over 600 evaluations in 51 countries. This research has informed hundreds
of successful programs that now impact millions of individuals worldwide.
Job Summary: The Qualitative
Researcher is needed to design and manage the qualitative component of an
evaluation examining the long-term effectiveness of a leadership and
entrepreneurship program for secondary students. Extensive experience designing
and conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups, leading and managing
teams, monitoring data quality and data collection required. The individual
will work in partnership with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), University
of California (UC Berkeley) and Educate!.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
·        
Communicate with youth study participants, youth
mentors, as well as academics and IPA research team;
·        
Facilitate process to narrow scope and refine
learning questions
·        
Design, pilot, and refine qualitative data
collection tools;
·        
Design and coordinate data quality assurance and
auditing systems;
·        
Recruit, assessing, training and managing of
5-10 high-level interviewer staff;
·        
Plan and organize individual interviews and
focus group discussions;
·        
Manage information and data collected and ensure
targets are reached in a timely manner;
·        
Supervise transcription of individual interviews
and focus group discussions;
·        
Analyze the data and write an evaluation report
including (but not limited to): evaluation approach and methods, findings, case
studies, conclusions and recommendations;
·        
Create and control project timeline and budget;
·        
Supervise health and safety of interviewing team
and report issues according to internal processes;
·        
Perform related duties as assigned by
supervisor;
·        
Maintain compliance with all organizational
policies and procedures;



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
·        
At least three to five years of qualitative
research experience
·        
Excellent verbal and written communication
skills in English
·        
Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office –
Word, Excel and Outlook)
·        
Willingness to travel throughout Uganda for data
collection for the duration of contract
·        
Master’s degree required
·        
Must be able to work under pressure and meet
deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
·        
Ability to work independently and to carry out
assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed
routines, and standard accepted practices
