working in Uganda since 1998. It has particularly working in the conflict zones
where tens of thousands of people have been kills and over 1.6 million
displaced. Following a peace agreement in 2006, Ugandans are returning home and
looking to rebuild their lives. The IRC is there to protect women and children
from violence and exploitation by fostering a safe environment and encouraging
education, and is supporting farmers and small businesses, and helping
communities promote peace and long-term development.
Job Summary: The Nutrition
Officer will support the health and nutrition program staff, Village Health
Teams and communities to ensure early identification, referral and management
of acute malnutrition among refuges in Palabek settlement and surrounding host
communities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·        
Support health workers at health facilities and
established outreaches to manage acute malnutrition among children < 5yrs
and pregnant/ lactating mothers according to nutrition program guidelines.
·        
Directly ensure integration of nutrition program
within health service delivery (i.e. at health facility level and in
outreaches) and management of SAM, MAM while maintaining independence of
nutrition programming in terms of its implementation protocol and monthly
performance indicators are within acceptable sphere standards.

Collect quality data, utilize and also timely
and accurately report the data.
·        
Oversee and advise on activities implemented by
Village Health Team Members including mentoring and reporting follow-up.
·        
Identify nutrition related training needs for
VHTs, clinical staff, lead mothers and hygiene club members on nutrition and
health and organize the necessary trainings.
·        
Render support in the development and
dissemination of relevant IEC materials on Management of Acute Malnutrition and
Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices.
·        
Provide Nutrition education to project staff and
other support personnel.
·        
Assist in regular on-job mentorship and support
of Village Health Teams/ Hygiene Promoters and lead mothers in nutrition
promotion at community level.
·        
Directly organize for VHT meetings on a monthly
basis and in addition to sharing achievements, challenges and solutions, Ensure
VHTs are oriented on active case finding referral and follow-up of malnourished
clients.
·        
Participate in all project review assessments,
surveys and studies and ensure these are conducted according to protocol.
·        
Ensure regular collection of household nutrition
data, compilation and reporting.
·        
Ensure regular and timely monthly reporting
among the VHTs on the project activities among VHTs in the catchment area
·        
Oversee reporting on project progress, success
stories and lessons learned during project implementation.
·        
Actively participate in monthly VHT meetings and
provide regular feedback on the matters discussed.
·        
Provide technical and managerial support to
nutrition program staff under your supervision.
·        
Confidentiality: Ensuring the
non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and
business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or
organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in
Nutrition.
·        
Must be registered with Uganda Ministry of
Health.
·        
A minimum of two to three years of experience in
implementing nutrition programs.
·        
Previous experience of working in partnership
with community based health structures such as Village Health Teams.
·        
Experience in staff training/capacity building
of program staff.
·        
Proven M&E skills and the ability to write
good program reports.
·        
Ability to network and coordinate with other
organizations implementing refugee response activities.
·        
Flexible, reliable, and with the ability to work
in isolated and stressful environments under pressure.
