About Us:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit
organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health
specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity
Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
About E-AMAKA Project:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) through the EAMAKA project
offers free Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) services in 11 districts of Uganda as
part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package. The districts of implementation
for this project are; Kampala, Wakiso, Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Kagadi, Arua,
Koboko, Nebbi, Pakwach and Zombo.
Job Summary: The SMC
Counselor will conduct client counseling for SMC ensuring high-level
confidentiality without discrimination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Tasked
    with the provision of a full range of counseling services to SMC clients
  • Identify
    clients’ needs and document pertinent information
  • Ensure
    that all client information is documented is stored in a manner that
    observes the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • As part of the counselling service, assist
    clients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas
  • Refer
    clients for further counseling to other social support institutions as
    required
  • Participate
    as a full member of the circumcision team
  • Support
    other circumcision related activities as required     



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a diploma or degree in counseling or a health related
    field
  • Completion
    of a recognized course in a counseling with a specialty in counseling services
    for persons living with HIV/AIDS
  • At
    least three years of related experience in a clinical setting
  • Applicants
    must be trained and certified to provide counselling for SMC clients.
  • Excellent
    communication skills
  • Good
    counseling skills
  • Ability
    to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Extensive
    knowledge and understanding of recent advances in HIV/AIDS.
  • Knowledge
    and understanding of one of the local languages e.g. Alur, Lugbara, Madi
    is highly desirable.
