About US:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit
research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including
Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications
and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC
currently manages over 41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was
established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University
College of health sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the
Uganda Ministry of health.
About USAID MAPD Project:
The Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD) project is a 5-year
USAID/PMI funded project. The project aims to prevent and control Malaria
illnesses and deaths in order to minimise the social economic effects of the
disease among the overall population of Uganda especially in children under 5
years of age. The project will be implemented starting in August 2016, and will
cover 43 districts with a total population of more than 13 million. The Malaria
Action Program for Districts project offers a partnership uniquely positioned to
deliver this implementation rollout. Partners include Johns Hopkins Program for
International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), Banyan Global,
Deloitte &Touché Uganda, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and
Communication for Development Foundation-Uganda (CDFU).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Offer support, to all health facilities
    staff involved in the MAPD program in terms of HMIS strengthening and
    reporting malaria surveillance data
  • Work as a liaison contact between MAPD
    Consortium partner (IDRC) and the District Health Management Teams (DHMTs)
  • Work with the DHMT to ensure that there is
    effective supervision of surveillance work at the health centers and
    reports are submitted on time.
  • Work with the DHMT and health facility
    in-charges to ensure that data use meetings are regularly held at the
    district and the MRCs.
  • Support district biostatisticians in
    ensuring that malaria normal channel charts are regularly updated
  • Build and maintain effective relationships
    with the administration and staff of the Malaria Reference Centers (MRCs).
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of the
    registers and other essential supplies at districts supported by the MAPD
    project.
  • The jobholder will also transmit clean
    data from MRCs to the designated person at the Kampala office
  • Ensure HMIS Forms 033b and HMIS Forms 105
    from all health facilities involved in the MAPD program are generated and
    sent to the district health office and Resource Centre, MOH in a timely
    manner
  • Work closely with the Surveillance program
    team to support implementation of program activities at MRCs.
  • Support MAPD program activities as and
    when requested.
Key Result Areas:
  • Organizing and attending Data use meetings
    at the district health office and at MRCs.
  • In charge of the supervision of real time
    data entry at the MRCs
  • Coordination of Site support (registers
    & other supplies)
  • Supervision of malaria reference centre
    staff and activities



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant for the USAID MAPD Regional
    Surveillance Assistant job should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social
    Sciences or related Humanities field
  • Must have basic data analytical skills and
    experience
  • At least two to three years’ experience with
    District Health Teams or health systems
  • Extensive knowledge of HMIS is an added
    advantage
  • Good interpersonal and communication
    skills.
  • Networking skills
  • Ability to ride a motorbike and must have
    a valid riding licence
  • Integrity and ability to develop a
    productive working relationship with District Health Teams.
  • Ability to operate in a fast and diverse
    environment
