USAID/PMI funded project. The project aims to prevent and control Malaria illnesses
and deaths in order to minimise the social economic effects of the disease
among the overall population of Uganda especially in children under 5 years of
age. The project will be implemented starting in August 2016, and will cover 43
districts with a total population of more than 13 million. The Malaria Action
Program for Districts project offers a partnership uniquely positioned to
deliver this implementation rollout. Partners include Johns Hopkins Program for
International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), Banyan Global,
Deloitte &Touché Uganda, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and
Communication for Development Foundation-Uganda (CDFU).

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will facilitate training of
Laboratory staff in performing diagnostic tests for febrile illnesses
including malaria microscopy and RDT for diagnosis of malaria at selected
health facilities involved in the MAPD program - Perform quality control on blood smears
and RDTs done at MRCs and selected health facilities involved in the MAPD
program - Participate in the conduct of data quality
assessments at MRCs and selected health facilities involved in the MAPD
program - Maintain an inventory of all laboratory
supplies and equipment delivered to selected health facilities involved in
the MAPD program and MRCs. - Setting up and supervising laboratory
QA/QC at all selected health facilities involved in the MAPD program and
at MRCs. - Support MAPD program activities as and
when requested.

- Training of staff in Lab techniques
- Lab Inventory management
- Setting up and supervision of Lab QA/QC
activities - Replicate MRC Lab Management model to
other sites.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant for the USAID MAPD Laboratory
Technician job should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory
Technology/Laboratory Science. - At least two to three years’ experience in
a similar role and setting - Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills. - Team building and networking skills
- Integrity and ability to develop a
productive working relationship with District Health Teams. - Ability to operate in a fast and diverse
environment
