About US:
SPOUTS is a social
venture that locally manufactures and distributes effective ceramic water
filters to improve the access to clean drinking water sustainably in Uganda. In
addition, we locally manufacture free hand hand-washing stations to improve
access to hygiene. Our mission is to
provide clean drinking water and hygiene services to all East Africans. We
currently sell multiple water filter products under the brand name
“Purifaaya”. The Purifaaya provides
financial, social, and health benefits for its customers in addition to
environmental benefits.
Since SPOUTS sold
its first Purifaaya in 2015, it has distributed 60,000+ filters to East Africa
providing over 350,000 end-users with long-term access to clean drinking
water. SPOUTS is a rapidly-growing
organization and the next step is to scale its operations across all of East
Africa to provide all with clean drinking water.
Job Summary: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee
operations for our organization as we enter new markets, develop and maintain
partnerships, and create a far-reaching organizational strategy that revolves
around creating a sustainable, impact-driven enterprise. The COO will carry a
lot of responsibility when it comes to creating a seamless entity that carries
out its manufacturing, marketing, sales and operations while helping to
increase access to those who need it most. The COO will help shape a growing
organization and build a rewarding long-term career. The COO will report
directly to the CEO and will work closely with all department heads.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Design
and implement long-term business strategies, plans and procedures to steer the
company’s future in a positive direction. Assess and manage the principal risks
of the business within operations
·
Support
financial planning efforts, including budgeting, forecasting and P&L
analysis alongside the CEO
·
Drive
the company’s operating capabilities to surpass customer satisfaction, customer
retention and company goals
·
Oversee
daily operations of the company and management of the IT, Operations and
Finance teams
·
Direct
the development of operational and financial reports and metrics to keep key
stakeholders informed and current on activities across all markets
·
Integrate
new and improved IT solutions across the organization
·
Oversee
and manage the supply chain processes across the region
·
Participate
in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances among
other things) to drive SPOUTS’ operations throughout East Africa
·
Lead
employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication through employing
various initiatives to coach employees to optimize their capabilities.
·
Assist
leadership team in fundraising ventures
·
Control
company costs and introduce tactical initiatives to address risks realized in
the field
·
Complete
performance reviews in a prudent manner
·
Promote
an exceptional team and customer experience
·
Establish
policies that promote company culture and vision
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
applicant must hold a BSc/BA in Business Administration or relevant field;
MSc/MBA is a plus
·
Five
years of experience managing a complex enterprise’s operations, strategy, IT,
finance, business development and market expansion
·
Proven
experience as Chief Operating Officer or relevant role
·
Proven
track record of outstanding performance in a previous complex enterprise
·
Proven
track record of managing complex budgets successfully
·
Working
knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
·
Outstanding
verbal and written skills
·
Experience
working with staff at all levels
·
Ability
to make business projections three years into the future
·
Demonstrable
competency in strategic planning and business development
·
Demonstrated
experience of ethical leadership
·
Outstanding
organizational and leadership abilities
·
Excellent
interpersonal and public speaking skills
·
Aptitude
in decision-making and problem-solving
·
Experience
in fundraising will be a plus
