Job Summary:
The Public Health Promotion Assistant will assist plan and carry out rapid assessments,
KAP studies and feedback findings to the stakeholders. Assist in planning
activities to reduce WASH-health related risks
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Help plan and carry out rapid assessments, KAP studies and feedback
    findings to the stakeholders.
  • Assist in planning activities to reduce WASH-health related risks.
  • Organise and conduct hygiene promotion activities in the assigned
    zones / blocks as per plan
  • Carry out informal and formal training sessions (for identified
    needs)
  • Assist in mobilising community for action.
  • Help identify needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene, planning
    & distribution of items plus promotion of effective use
  • Work with MEL to conduct post-distribution monitoring.
  • Identify issues of concern within community and facilitate dialogue
    with the affected community
  • Supervise Hygiene Promotion activities in line with relevant
    standards (code of conduct, core humanitarian principles).
  • Actively contribute to development of rapid response and contingency
    plans.
  • Promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and
    maintenance of WASH facilities and services specifically Latrines and Hand
    washing facilities.
  • Collate data from the community hygiene promoters & volunteers
    and prepare regular reports on activities and WASH conditions for
    monitoring.
  • Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and
    delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
  • Coordinate with PHE Assistants to ensure that the various aspects of
    the WASH response are integrated.
  • Organize day-to-day logistics, administration, and personnel
    activities together with the Shelter Project Officer in the assigned camp.
  • Work closely with the community leaders and other sectors and
    agencies working locally in order to coordinate within the WASH sector and
    between sectors such as health and community services.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The ideal candidate for the Oxfam Public Health Promotion Assistant
    job must hold a Diploma in Public Health, Environment health sciences,
    Social Sciences, Community development or other relevant field
  • Previous experience in undertaking hygiene promotion in a relief
    programme is essential.
  • Proven ability to use MS Office software (especially Word and Excel)
    is desirable.
  • Ability to initiate, develop, plan and implement an integrated
    programme.
  • Experience in capacity building and training of staff and target
    groups
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills, including the
    ability to explain and present technical information
  • Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where
    insecurity is a major issue
  • Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of disadvantaged populations
    (minority groups etc)
  • Language: Fluency
    in written and spoken English is essential; fluency in Kiswahili is highly
    desirable.
