The Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is owned by the
Federal republic of Germany with International operations in Uganda. GIZ
Implements commissions for the German government and other national and
international, public and private sector clients within the framework of the
international Cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the
Government of Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensuring that GIZ IT regulations and standard procedures are
    complied with.
  • Ensuring that the server and all project computers. sottware,
    printers, and communication equipment function properly.
  • Providing IT services to the Civil Society in Uganda Support
    Programme (CUSP) components.
  • Advising partner organisations on IT related issues.
  • Providing trainings on IT, e.g. MS Office applications for partner
    organisations.
  • Actively coordinating his/her work with the IT officers at GIZ
    Uganda Country Office and with the GIZ IT Service Centre at headquarters.
  • In close collaboration with and under the supervision of the GIZ
    Uganda Security Officer, advising the CIISP learn on security related
    topics.
IT:
  • Ensures that all software on CUSP computers is regularly updated.
  • Manages and maintains the CUSP internal local area network and the
    CUSP server.
  • Advises the CUSP Admin Officer on all IT related procurements and
    the management of related service contracts (internal, telephone, hardware
    maintenance, etc).
  • Conducts regular IT maintenance on all CUSP computers including CUSP
    team members in the regional hubs in Gulu and Mbale and additional hubs to
    be set up in the West and the South in order to ensure their proper
    functioning.
  • Troubleshoots all IT related problems either directly or remotely
    (e.g. through team viewer). is responsible for IT security (firewall,
    password management, etc).
  • Advises CUSP partners and CUSP advisors on IT solutions for
    effective CSO management. ,
  • Conducts trainings on IT related issues, such as MS Office
    applications, for CUSP partner organizations and staff.
  • Closely coordinates activities together with the IT Officers at GIZ
    Uganda Country Office and the IT Service Centre at GIZ headquarters.
  • Is the main local point for all external IT consultants.
Security
  • Oversees the security company guarding the compound.
  • Work in close collaboration with and under the supervision of the
    Security Officer at GIZ Uganda Country Office, attends to all security
    related incidents involving CUSP staff (like car accidents, break-ins,
    etc.).
  • Advises on security precautions at all CUSP project sites (Kampala.
    Gulu and Mbale) as well as private houses of international staff on
    request.
  • Regularly seeks an exchange with the security task team at country
    office on the security situation in Uganda.
  • Regularly updates the CUSP management on any security relevant
    events or changes in the general security situation.
Other
duties/additional tasks
  • Be prepared to travel and to undertake further training related to
    his/her position and duties, if required. Special training programs shall
    he identified and selected jointly with the Head of Programme.
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of the Head of
    Programme.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The GIZ Security Focal Point and IT Officer must hold a Degree in
    ITC or similar field of studies.
  • Professional experience
  • At least five years of professional experience in an ICT position.
  • Experience as a security local point in an organization/institution
    in the security sector is an added advantage.
  • Working experience for GIZ and knowledge of GIZ IT policy,
    procedures, processes, rules and standards would be an asset. Other
    knowledge, additional competences
  • Very good knowledge of all common Microsoft applications, SAP.
  • Experience in managing an office lT infrastructure including server,
    data back-up systems, IT maintenance, trouble shooting, etc.
  • Experience in providing IT related trainings.
  • A background or experience in working m security forces or as a
    security officer in an international organization would be an added
    advantage.
  • Experience of working with an international / intercultural team.
  • Very good knowledge of the English language.
