About US:
The Infectious
Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization.
IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and
Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted
on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over
41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May
2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health
sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of
health.
Job Summary:   The Research
Assistant will support the IBIS Health study which will be based in South
Western Uganda. The IBIS Health study will evaluate the comparative
effectiveness and sustainability of innovative incentive strategies, informed
directly by theories from behavioural economics and decision psychology, to
promote repeat HIV testing among high risk populations, and HIV treatment among
HIV-infected adults in rural Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
Obtaining
informed written and verbal consent from potential study participants.
·        
Recruitment
and enrolment of participants into the aim 3 repeat HIV testing trial.
·        
Obtaining
digital finger print biometrics for all participants enrolled into the study
·        
Verbally
administering questionnaires to participants and recording responses using
computer tablets, and providing follow up tracking for participants lost to
follow up.
·        
Making
sure that participants’ cash deposits are well documented and safe
·        
Participating
in data quality assurance practices, including weekly review of study progress
·        
Maintaining
confidentiality throughout study period
·        
Being
responsible and providing safety of the organization’s equipment and
accountability for resources.
Key Result Areas:

Fully
completed participants’ consents.
·        
Participants
correctly screened, enrolled and followed up.
·        
Accurate
and timely completion of questionnaires and resolution of data queries.
·        
Proper
documentation of participants’ financial incentives.
·        
Maintaining
high levels of confidentiality.
·        
Excellent
team work and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·        
The
applicant for the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) Research
Assistant job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or Humanities
from a recognized institution.
·        
Must
have prior working experience in a research setting.
·        
Must
have Evidence of GCP/HSP training
·        
Additional
training in HIV and related infectious diseases is an added advantage.
·        
Integrity
and ability to develop a good working relationship with communities.
·        
Must
have knowledge of research ethics.
·        
Excellent
knowledge (both oral and written) of Runyankole/ Rukiga languages.
