About Study:
PATH is implementing
a program on self-injection best practices which aims to generate evidence and
guidance that decision-makers in Uganda and beyond can use to introduce and
advance scalable self-injection programs. The principal results will be the
development of optimal self-injection program components, with specific program
design elements that can be varied to achieve proficiency, cost-efficiency,
accessibility, and satisfaction among both clients (including adolescents) and
providers.

Job Summary: The Research officer will be based in Kampala
with travel time accounting to 50% to the field to coordinate data collection
for an evaluation study. The assignment
will be for a period of 6 months with an option to renew for 3 months. The
temporary Research Officer will work closely with the Advancing Contraceptives
Options’ Research team. The incumbent
will participate in the in-country implementation of the Self-injection Best
Practices evaluation activities. The jobholder will mainly participate in
project monitoring activities in the districts of implementation
with travel time accounting to 50% to the field to coordinate data collection
for an evaluation study. The assignment

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Actively participate in the development of evaluation data
collection instruments, and SOPs, and manage the process of translating
evaluation materials into local languages; - Conduct field work and training, and supervise study staff and data
collection. - Participate in the coordination of activities of any subcontracted
organization(s), as needed (including organizing & co-facilitating
trainings, monitoring quality of data collection and addressing
problems/challenges with data collection as they arise, overseeing data
entry). - Participate in data analysis, in close collaboration with the
Research team in Uganda, and in Seattle; - Participate in-country data dissemination plan and ensure on-going
data sharing for decision-making with partners. - Coordinate and resolve issues as they arise, in consultation with
project team, to assure effective implementation of evaluation activities

- Collaborate effectively with implementing health facilities to
ensure on-going collection of high quality monitoring data; - Conduct site visits for data collection and quality assurance, and
work with FP focal persons, clinic providers and VHTs (as needed) to
ensure that reporting forms are completed accurately and in a timely
fashion; - Coordinate and resolve issues as they arise, in consultation with
project team, to assure effective implementation of monitoring activities; - Provide support to the self-injection Best practices project
implementation and represent PATH in specific forums, in consultation with
the PATH ACO Uganda Team, and the PATH Seattle-based team;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s in public health or related field
required; - Six years of demonstrated experience in implementing and managing
public health research projects, preferably with family planning or
reproductive health components; - Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative research
methods acquired through both practical and academic experience; - Experience interacting with country governments, donor agencies,
research organizations, and other local and international non-profit
agencies; - Experience with project monitoring and evaluation;
- The Research Officer is expected to have strong expertise in
research and, preferably, research related to family planning. - Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and oral presentation
skills are a must. - Excellent analytical skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with local and international
project management team to effectively oversee project implementation, and
to work harmoniously as a team member; - Proven ability to nurture effective and positive relationships with
national governmental stakeholders, NGO partners, and donor
representatives; - Skills in SPSS, Epi info, Access, Stata, ENVIVO, ATLAS
