About US:
The Uganda National
Association of the Deaf (UNAD) is a Non-Governmental and non-profit
Organization registered under the Uganda NGO registration statutes of 1989. It
was established in 1973 as an umbrella organization for all Deaf associations
and groupings in Uganda. UNAD envisions ‘Dignity for every Deaf person in
Uganda’, and its Mission is to ‘Build capacities of Deaf people, promote sign
language, advocate for the rights and lobby for access to services by Deaf
people in Uganda.’
About Project:
UNAD has entered
into a 3 year partnership with Deaf Child worldwide – the International arm of
the UK Deaf Children Society – to implement the “Ye, Kisoboka” (Yes, It is
possible) Project with the aim of improving the livelihoods of at least  150 vulnerable Deaf youth, aged 15 to 24yrs
in greater Kampala so as to enable them to lead independent lives through
provision of vocational skills training and connection into the job-world
through internships and practicums as well as rallying behind potential
employers to absorb Deaf youth into the formal and informal labour market.
Job Summary:  The Project Officer will take full
responsibility of the project implementation. He/ She shall report to the
UNAD  Programme Coordinator and may at
times be requested to appear before the Board of Directors. He/ She will be act
as the Secretary of the Project Management Committee (PMC).
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Supervise, Direct, Coordinate & Support the Project Assistant
    and other members of staff under the Ye! Kisoboka project.
  • Working with the Project Assistant, He/She shall prepare annual
    project work Plans and Budgets
  • Link Deaf youths with potential employers for Internships and
    Employment Opportunities
  • Check & verify the accuracy of financial books & budgets in
    line with UNAD finance guidelines
  • Liaise with the project partner institutions, employers and other
    key stakeholders  such as government
    ministries parents of Deaf children association among others and
    maintaining close relations and linkages
  • Write timely regular & periodical narrative reports to UNAD and
    DCW
  • Participate in periodic monitoring of Project Activities
  • Conduct periodical project staff meetings
  • Report to PC
  • Develop & write fundable project proposals
  • Manage and maintain a disciplined and motivated workforce and
    encouraging Team work
  • Ensuring a positive image for the project & UNAD in the general
    public
  • Establish key partnerships to deliver UNAD’s vision including but
    not limited to fundraising

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in
    SWSA, Social Science, or related equivalent qualification
  • Three years’ experience in a similar or related job
  • Knowledge of computer application especially Word, Excel, Access,
    Power point, internet 
  • Knowledge of Uganda Sign Language an added advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of participatory community development methodologies
  • A team builder and team player
