Action for Health
Uganda (A4HU) is a youth empowerment organization dedicated to mainstream young
peoples’ engagement in socio-economic development and promoting Sexual and
Reproductive Health and rights (SRHR). A4HU was registered in October 2017 as a
new entity to take over the operations of DSW (Deutsche Stiftung
Weltbevoelkerung) in Uganda. For the past 18 years DSW has supported the
implementation of a portfolio of projects to improve sexual and reproductive
health of young people in Uganda.
Job Summary:   The Project
Manager will provide overall leadership in the execution of project activities
in close collaboration with the district leaders, Civil Society Organizations,
International and local partners and Authorities and other service providers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Planning and
Strategies:
  • Prepares quarterly work plans and cash flow projections for approval
Project
implementation and reporting:
  • Ensures that activity implementation is according to work plan and
    budget
  • Prepares and submits quality financial and narrative project reports
    to in a timely manner according to the report schedule.
  • Coordination with outside partners
  • Represents A4HU in all related meetings at the district and national
    level as may be assigned.
  • Submits periodic reports to the district focal person.
Monitoring and
Evaluation:
  • Conducts baseline survey, Knowledge Attitude and Practice studies as
    may be required.
  • Conducts regular monitoring of activity implementation in the field.
  • Prepares monitoring visit reports for every visit conducted
  • Coordinates all project related evaluation activities and prepares
    reports.
Budgeting and
Budgetary Control:
  • Prepares, project cash flows projections.
  • Prepares and submits financial requisitions to the for submission to
    Head office in a timely manner
  • Reviews all financial requests before submission for approval
  • Tracks the budget and ensures all expenses are within budget and
    properly accounted for.
  • Together with the Field Finance and Administration Officer/Assistant
    prepares monthly financial reports
Management and Training
of Staff:
  • Supervises the Project Officers in the field office according to the
    HR Policy and Project Plans.
  • Implements staff capacity building activities at start of the
    project and conducts performance appraisal as per schedules.
Communications:
  • Ensures efficient communication with the project stakeholders
    partners and head office
  • Responsibility for assigned adhoc duties   
  • Performs any other duties that may from time to time be assigned by
    the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a Masters in Project planning and
    management or related discipline.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Gender studies, Project
    Management
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management or other
    appropriate degree.
  • Competence in computer skills is a must (word processing and spread
    sheets).
  • At least five years’ experience in a similar position. A minimum two
    (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Previous experience in managing a project budget successfully.
  • Fluent in Luganda language, oral and written English.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
  • High level of personal integrity.
