Job Summary: We are looking for a qualified, experienced and result oriented professional to fill the following vacancy.
Job purpose: To carry out investigations, generate ideas for news stories and deliver analysis on breaking stories that add value to the content of broadcast and print.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Investigations Editor to research, develop and produce investigative documentary and digital documentary projects for multi-media platforms including Broadcast and Print digital platforms.
- Work with Investigative Editor to develop special projects for multimedia platforms.
- Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- Exercise editorial judgement in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
- Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble edit and deliver programs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- Publish and air stories that are free of defamatory content and libel
- Attend to viewers’ complaints, views and reactions and takes appropriate action
- Send daily briefs and updates of news (Text & photo or Rich media) as it happens to the Online Editor to achieve the Digital/ Mobile 1st objectives.
- Write at least two blogs per week to NMG Digital Platforms.
- Apply NMG Editorial and Social Media policies whenever posting any content on personal or company Digital assets.
- Undertake any other projects assigned by the Managing Editor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Academic: University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution.
- Professional: Diploma in Journalism
- Experience: 5-7 years daily newsroom experience, with emphasis on investigative writing and/ or reporting.
Core Competences:
- Passion for writing coupled with a keen news sense
- Possesses broad knowledge of local and regional issues and /or depth of knowledge in beat specialty
- Ability to work accurately and under pressure
- Deadline driven
- High degree of professionalism
- Must be able to work independently and with little supervision
- Intensive reporting style focused on uncovering hidden truths
- Must have a good eye for detail
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills & communication skills
- Must be able to deal effectively with simultaneous tasks
- Strong analytical skills
