Uganda Electricity
Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act,
2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Act, Cap 98
and Electricity Act, Cap 145 respectively. UEGCL is wholly owned by the
Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the
business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to
neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation
Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets –
Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when
required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of
Energy and Mineral Development; organize, support, encourage and maintain
training facilities in technical and related fields, amongst others.

Job Summary: The Civil Technician will carry out preventive
and corrective maintenance of civil components of the plant according to set
maintenance standard and as per the planned maintenance schedules or as
instructed by the supervisor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake routine and periodic inspection of civil structures and
instruments. - Monitor civil activities for compliance with maintenance and safety
procedures and international standards - Participate in procurement of Civil works and/or tools
- Maintain records and drawings of all civil engineering activities
- Undertake preventive and corrective civil maintenance activities on
the plant - Undertake risk assessment of all planned and ongoing civil
activities - Prepare progress report for civil engineering activities and/or
projects - Supervise contractors executed projects under the civil division
- Take out permit to work as per the safety requirement
- Attend planned meetings in health and safety, and general plant
operation - Prepare plans and cost estimates for civil projects
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of Plumbing, carpentry and
painting works on
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the Uganda Electricity Generation
Company Ltd (UEGCL) Civil Technician job placement must hold a Higher
Diploma in Civil and Building Engineering - At least two years’ experience in Hydropower Plant Operations
- Proof of “Excellence” in Industrial Training from reputable
Industrial Establishment - Applicants must be physically fit, able to climb several stairs.
- Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and
Power point - Self-motivated
- Ability to interpret Civil Engineering Drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Good interpersonal skills
- Teamwork skills
- Basic knowledge of Engineering Standards
- Age: Below 35 years
