It is a multimedia business housing newspaper, magazines, internet publishing, television, radio broadcasting, commercial printing, advertising and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY 2010/2011).
Job Summary: This role supports the Finance Department in the production of the monthly management reports and in the preparation and consolidation of the annual budget and forecasting processes. It provides business partner support to key managers and budget holders of the business in the preparation of departmental budgets and reforecasts of service and management costs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial plans, forecasts, and budgets to drive business growth
- Provide timely, accurate financial statements, reports and analysis to management and other stakeholders
- Identity and mitigate financial risks, ensure regulatory compliance
- Design and review internal controls to safeguard business resources.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns (corporate tax, VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, etc.) while maintaining full compliance with relevant tax laws and deadlines
- Preparing VAT schedules, process VAT payment & Submission of VAT returns
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to inform business decisions
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as sales, internal audit among others.
- Attending to internal and external audit queries as well as Uganda Revenue Authority
- Verification of commission claims for sales executives.
- Raising and posting test reports for vendors before suppliers’ payments are made.
- Prepare accurate cost reports, cost sheets, and variance analyses
- Investigate and report cost and performance variances
- Drive efficiency and effectiveness in financial processes and systems
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration (Accounting option), or a closely related field is usually required.
- Full ICPAU Membership is a MUST
- At least level 3 CPA attained at the time of application
- In-depth knowledge of tax law, principles, and practical tax advisory skills is a strong advantage
Working Experience
- At least 5+ years of post-qualification experience with 3 of those at senior-level
- Experience in a fast-paced business or FMCG environment
- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Technical
- Strong knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)
- Ability to manage effective and professional internal customer relationships.
- Excellent numeracy skills and advanced excel skills
- Able to build strong working relationships with individuals and teams from all disciplines within the business;
- Able to clearly explain and present technical financial information to none experts
- Excellent verbal, reasoning and written communication skills.
