The MRC/UVRI Uganda
Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time.

Job Summary: The Bus Driver will drive the bus and
allocated programme vehicles safely and efficiently according to provided
schedules.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive the bus and other allocated
vehicles according to current safety, route and schedule policies.
- Ensure bus and vehicles are not
overloaded with passengers or supplies. - Communicate regularly with supervisor on
all matters arising from duty. - Maintain the bus and other allocated
vehicles in road worthy condition. - Report major mechanical faults and
accidents that require management action. - Operate the bus in a cost-effective
manner. - Maintain and update trip movement and
fuel records for the bus and any other allocated vehicles. - Maintain the cleanliness of the bus and
vehicle and the image of Unit to the public in line with the Unit
requirements and the Uganda road safety guidelines. - Renew the Unit bus and allocated vehicle
licenses. - Perform any other related duties as may
be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Medical Research
Council (MRC) UK / UVRI) Bus Driver job placement must hold an
ordinary level certificate. - Three years of experience driving a bus
in a reputable organization. - Should have had training in defensive
driving. - Must have a badge as required by the TLB
or have applied for it. - Should have a valid driver’s License
with classes B, CM, DH, DL & DM. - Should have Knowledge of English and
good communication skills.
