Job Summary:   The Risk
Officer – Middle Office  will be
responsible for the Identification, assessment and management of the bank’s Money
Markets Risk and Treasury policies to the Head of Risk, Head of Treasury,
Executive Director, Managing Director and Group Director Treasury for
corrective actions to be taken.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Tasked with monitoring adherence of all risk management policies and
    procedures and reporting of exceptions,
  • Review the correctness of the money markets data loaded in the
    Treasury software and take ownership of maintenance of history database on
    yields, exchange rates, volatiles, among others.
  • Money Markets & Treasury Risk assessment which involves managing
    the process of analyzing upside and downside risks as well as identifying,
    describing and estimating the quantitative and qualitative risks affecting
    the business;
  • Revalue and Mark to Market of trading portfolio.
  • Stress testing of the portfolio assuming various adverse scenarios
    and reporting the results to the Managing Director and members of the
    Asset & Liability Committee on a week basis. ~
  • Money Market & Treasury Risk evaluation which involves comparing
    estimated risks with risk criteria established by the. organization such
    as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors;
  • Money Markets & Treasury Risk treatment by selecting and
    implementing measures to control and mitigate risks including activities
    to avoid risks, transfer risks and finance risks; ‘
  • Assessment of the Money Markets & Treasury Risk profile and
    obtaining approval from Assets & Liabilities Committee before trading
    in new products.
  • Development of robust valuation and risk measurement models for trading
    products.
  • Daily monitoring of stop loss, counterparty limit, among others.
  • Daily monitoring of the blotters on Treasury deals booked, advise
    and supervise the implementation of corrective measures to mitigate the
    identified deficiencies Providing support, education and training to
    staff, commonly at management level.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Equity Bank Risk Officer – Middle Office job
    placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree in business related field from a
    recognized university.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant post-qualification experience
    in Risk Management, preferably in a banking, telecom, or busy commercial
    environment;
  • Deep knowledge of general practices in Back Office work and
    Treasury.
  • Must have proven experience working in a fast paced problem solving
    selling
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong leadership skills, good interpersonal skills and strong
    planning & organizing skills;
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of and exposure to risk management
    concepts, tools and practice.
