About US:
Shared Action Africa targets refugee populations and host communities under its integrated family planning project implemented in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District in Uganda. The settlement hosts over 140,000 Refuges from Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, and South Sudan. The project aims at improving access to modern short-term, long-term and permanent family planning methods for and men of reproductive age in Nakivale refugee settlement and host communities in Isingiro district in Uganda. To achieve its objectives, the project will collaborate with, peer agencies, health facilities and community-based organizations that provide complementary services (financial and energy) to improve access family planning and cervical cancer screening services by refugee populations and host communities in Nakivale and Oruchinga Refugee Settlements.
Job Summary: Shared Action Africa is seeking a qualified and motivated Agronomist (Diploma Holder) to support the implementation of climate-smart agricultural practices among refugee and host community women in Nakivale. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating lasting agricultural solutions and empowering communities through practical, inclusive, and sustainable approaches
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead agricultural demonstrations and training sessions on climate-smart agriculture for women farmers and Community Agricultural Trainers (CATs).
- Provide technical support in high-value crop production (tomatoes and onions), soil and water conservation, pest and disease management, and crop diversification.
- Support the establishment of demonstration plots and ensure consistent follow-up with participating groups.
- Facilitate collective marketing through SBGs and promote value addition and post-harvest handling best practices.
- Collaborate with project staff to strengthen market linkages, improve access to inputs, and promote sustainable farming methods.
- Contribute to data collection, monitoring, and reporting on project outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 2 years of practical experience in climate-smart agriculture, value chain development, or livelihood projects.
- Proven experience working with refugee or rural communities is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of high-value crops, irrigation systems, and value addition techniques.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Commitment to promoting gender equality and sustainable livelihoods.
