Job Summary: The accountant plays a strategic role in managing the financial health of the dairy processing plant by ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost control, and data-driven decision support. This position is responsible for leveraging SAP ERP to maintain financial records, analyze operational costs, and generate actionable insights that improve profitability and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will combine strong accounting fundamentals with analytical thinking, manufacturing cost expertise, and a proactive approach to financial performance management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Record and reconcile all financial transactions using SAP FI/CO modules
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, management reports, and dashboards
- Analyze financial trends, variances, and performance indicators to support strategic decisions
Cost Accounting & Profitability Tracking
- Monitor and analyze production costs, overheads, and product margins
- Implement and maintain standard costing models for UHT milk, yoghurt, ice cream, and butter
- Identify cost drivers and recommend efficiency improvements to enhance profitability
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the budgeting process by providing historical data, cost projections, and variance analysis
- Track budget adherence and flag deviations with root cause analysis
- Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to align financial forecasts with production plans
Inventory & Asset Management
- Reconcile inventory movements and valuations using SAP MM and FI modules
- Monitor stock levels, wastage, and shrinkage to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure full compliance with URA tax regulations, NSSF contributions, and statutory filings
- Prepare audit-ready documentation and support internal and external audit processes
- Maintain proper records for VAT, PAYE, and withholding tax
SAP ERP Optimization
- Use SAP to automate financial workflows, generate real-time reports, and improve data accuracy
- Collaborate with IT and finance teams to enhance system functionality and reporting capabilities
- Train junior staff on SAP usage and financial best practices
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/ACCA preferred)
- Minimum 3–5 years in accounting, preferably in manufacturing or FMCG
- Hands-on experience with SAP FI/CO and MM modules
- Strong ability to interpret financial data and generate actionable insights
- Advanced Excel, SAP ERP, and financial modelling tools
- Familiarity with Ugandan tax laws, NSSF, and URA compliance
