Job Summary: In order to improve the health and well-being of refugee women, children, and other vulnerable groups, the Nutrition Officer will take the lead in the development and execution of nutrition-focused programs. In order to address food insecurity and promote healthy eating habits, this position will entail working with community members, conducting needs assessments, and offering nutritional education.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and carry out nutrition initiatives and programs, emphasizing the Kyaka II settlement’s food security and malnutrition.
- To find nutritional deficiencies and health issues among recipients, conduct needs assessments.
- Create and present instructional materials and workshops on subjects like food preparation, hygiene, and balanced diets.
- Collaborate closely with the farming program teams to encourage the production of nutrient-dense crops.
- Data collection and analysis are used to track and assess the effectiveness of nutrition programs.
- Work together with other Hodari Foundation employees and outside partners to incorporate nutrition into all pertinent programs.
- Individuals and families with particular nutritional needs should receive one-on-one counseling and assistance.
- Create progress reports on the nutrition program’s activities on a regular basis.
- Carry out additional tasks as directed by the programs manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in food science, nutrition, public health, or a similar discipline.
- Two years or more of experience in a comparable position, ideally with knowledge of community-based nutrition initiatives.
- Awareness of typical nutritional issues in humanitarian and developing settings.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the capacity to collaborate with a wide range of community members.
- Strong abilities in data collection and analysis.
- The capacity to operate in a demanding and resource-constrained setting.
- Understanding community languages such as swahili, Kinyabwisha or kinyarwanda is a plus
- Having knowledge about Oyster mushrooms is an advantage
- Refugees and people living with disability are highly encouraged to apply
