Uganda Small Scale
Industries Association is a registered voluntary membership Non-Government
Business organization open to all registered small scale industries in Uganda.
Initiated in 1979, its major purpose is to enhance the industrial development
of small scale industries in the country right from the grass root level.
Currently it has sub offices in over 25 districts countryside mainly in the
southern central, easterner and western region.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct baseline survey regarding
    potential members, Membership Retention, Re-integration.
  • Develop a Regional Retention,
    Re-integration and Recruitment Plan for different zones and division
  • Conduct routine enterprise and potential
    member visits and profile USSIA Member operational enterprises as
    standardized in the Data Bank.
  • Support the implementation of
    activity/events as e.g. Capacity Building/Planning Workshops, Orientation
    Seminars.
  • Support development of Membership tools
    and materials (media): Print, Visual and Audio.
  • Compile Activity Reports of e.g.
    Training, Workshops, Enterprise Visits and Seminars.
  • Manage and maintain Regional Office:
    Collect and remit membership fees to the Secretariat including issuing of
    financial records,
  • provision and processing membership
    applications Forms, clients forms, using a range of office software,
    email, spreadsheets and databases, responding to customer enquiries and
    complaints; arranging regular testing for equipment and safety devices
    etc…
  • Organize ZEC/ Regional Steering
    Committee meetings and disseminate Minutes
  • Strengthen Internal and External
    Communication strategy e.g. for the Region at the levels of Membership,
    Zone, Regional and Secretariat. 
    Local Government, Media and Public Relations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s
    degree in marketing, economics, business or related fields;
  • Three years of experience working with
    financial sector;
  • Ability to construct, interpret,
    critique budgets and track expenditure; strong financial/budgeting skills;
  • Previous exposure and experience in
    Networking and ability to foster partnerships with community and/or
    Government agencies/organizations and groups;
  • Report writing skills, Strong group
    facilitation and training skills, Financial Management skills;
  • Knowledge of community development,
    empowerment and mentoring approaches;
  • Demonstrated experience in community
    economic development and management (own business or by providing business
    development services) experience with small business financing, market
    analysis and market research
  • Good oral and written communication
    skills of both English and Luganda as well as networking skills;
  • Languages: Excellent knowledge of English with
    proven ability to communicate in English (spoken and written) in a clear
    and concise manner. Knowledge of other local languages (Luganda and
    Swahili) is an asset.
