Job Summary: The Communications
Officer will support and assist in management of strategic communications
including the primary responsibility of media, website and social media management
for the Economic Policy Research Centre. The incumbent will assist the Programmes
Manager and other Senior Managers in managing relationships with other key
stakeholders including the research community, government, private sector
academia key stakeholders and staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communications and Public Relations Strategy Development: Assist in
development and implementation of EPRC’s Strategic Communications Strategy
and participate in maintaining the Centre’s visibility and reputation by
serving as a point of contact for key stakeholders where appropriate; - Media Networks and Relationships: Establish and maintain good networks of media personnel and
organizations. - Assist with developing media content such as drafting media
advisories, press releases; and pitching among others - Media Management and Monitoring: Assist in identifying and securing placement of news stories,
opinion articles, press releases and advertorial for the Centre in
relevant media and daily monitoring of the EPRC mentions in the media (
print, online and broadcast) and advise Programmes Manager of any key
trends and actions - Branding and Communications: Assist in preparation and supervision
of the production of publicity and promotional materials while ensuring
compliance to the EPRC brand and standards as provided in the Brand manual - Website Management:
Work closely with the Programmes Manager and the ICT team to ensure that
the EPRC website(s)are informative, user friendly and interactive - Print, Graphics and Audio-visual Design and Management: Support the
Programmes Manager in conceptualizing and designing digital and print
collateral to include minor revisions and major design initiatives such as
Logos, social media graphics and banners, infographics, icons, publicity
materials e.t.c; - Work closely with the
Programmes Manager and the Knowledge Management Specialist to ensure that
all publications (print and electronic) are well designed, properly
edited, repackaged and disseminated in formats that are client user
friendly

- Manage and update EPRC’s social and digital media channels on
Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others as need arises - Develop high-impact social media content, (including graphics,
photos, short videos and other multimedia formats) that showcase EPRC
products and services; and effectively inform and engage both internal and
external audiences;
Administrative
support: Contribute to drafting
departmental work plans, budgets for specific dissemination events and
campaigns/activities and preparation of Information Management and
Dissemination (IMD) monthly, quarterly and annual reporting activities

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a University degree in either public
relations, journalism or similar discipline from a recognized university - At least three years of relevant working experience in a similar
role(s) with demonstrated outcomes; working knowledge and understanding of
the Ugandan media industry and an extensive contact of networks; - Sound understanding of content development and management within
either government, think-tanks, and/or research organizations; - Experience in implementing new media strategies and an understanding
of the Information technology requirements of these strategies; - Familiarity and Knowledge of the think tank or research environment;
- Competent use of Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word,
Excel and Power Point is essential. - Knowledge and experience using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Adobe
Creative Suite, Flickr, MailChimp and Prezi - Ability to independently format and edit video will be an added
advantage; - Professionalism – Familiarity with communications and public
relations operations and objectives. Ability to work under pressure,
independently and with limited supervision and be accountable for the
professional application of duties and when on or off-site - Teamwork – Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and
maintain effective partnerships and working relations with people in a
multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for
diversity. Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational
goals; - Communication — Fluent written and spoken English; excellent
communication (strong verbal, written and presentation) skills, including
the ability to convey complex technical concepts both orally and in
writing, in a clear, concise style. - Confidentiality — Confidentiality of information maintained
regarding QAL and staff
