Job Summary: The job holder is responsible for driving business development, strategic leadership, managing and growing client relationships, sourcing credible business proposals, market share growth, and profitability. This role is also accountable for maintaining the risk health and portfolio quality of both new and existing business relationships. By ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and embedding the bank’s strategy into daily activities, the individual will lead the team in delivering exceptional value to corporate clients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Business Development

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth within the Corporate Banking segment, increasing market share and profitability.
  • Lead the team in converting sales pipelines into tangible business, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and growth targets.
  • Drive initiatives to improve customer experience and retention through relationship management and new business acquisition strategies.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the team in aligning their activities with both group and local strategies, ensuring a cohesive approach to business development.
  • Formulate sales strategies to ensure the success of corporate banking products, focusing on customer-centricity.

Relationship Management & Portfolio Quality

  • Oversee the development and management of high-value relationships with corporate clients, ensuring long-term satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Manage and monitor portfolio health, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining high-quality underwriting standards for new and existing business.
  • Provide strategic guidance on portfolio quality, working closely with Relationship Managers to optimize client accounts while minimizing risk.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to relevant policies, regulatory standards, and credit quality management.
  • Guide Relationship Managers on delinquent accounts, resolving service challenges, and collaborating with service providers to maintain smooth operations.

Team Leadership, Development & Performance

  • Lead and mentor a team of Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers, providing training, coaching, and professional development.
  • Support the recruitment and vetting processes for Relationship Managers, ensuring that the team is equipped with the skills and expertise necessary to achieve business goals.
  • Foster a culture of high performance by setting clear objectives and ensuring ongoing performance reviews and development plans for all team members.
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration and empower the team to take ownership of their portfolios, while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.

Operational Efficiency & Risk Management

  • Provide leadership around portfolio risk management, ensuring that all corporate banking activities are compliant with both internal and regulatory risk frameworks.
  • Develop and manage budgets and expenditures for the Corporate Banking unit, ensuring financial targets are met while optimizing resources.
  • Implement shorter processes to improve customer service, such as temporary limits and credit approvals against uncleared effects.
  • Intervene in critical cases between Relationship Managers and Executive Management to facilitate swift credit approvals and decision-making.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in finance, Business, Accounting or Commerce or its equivalent.
  • Professional Accounting Qualification, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Advanced Diploma, Chartered Financial Analyst, Association of Chartered Certified Accountant qualification or Certified Practicing Accountant qualification will be an added advantage

Work experience

  • 7 years’ experience in banking, of which 3 years must have been in relationship management and at least 2 years at Managerial level or supervisory.
