WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary: The
Business Support Assistant (IT Operations) will deliver standard business
support processes for a specific professional area of work, to facilitate
effective service delivery. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The incumbent will maintain inventory of material and/or database of
    information, such as, computer related equipment, communications
    equipment, training material, etc;
  • Maintain logs or archives of information, such as computer related
    logs, trouble tickets, directories, registries, data warehouses, reports,
    etc;
  • Assist in the deployment/dissemination of standard material, such
    as, computer hardware and/or software, applications, programs,
    directories, telephony, database content, training material, etc;
  • Assist in the maintenance of systems and equipment by carrying out
    routine tasks, such as backing up data, monitoring network and systems,
    servers and peripherals, running systems diagnostics, patch management and
    system optimization, removing viruses and bad data, ensuring that the generators
    are regularly serviced;
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards of deployed software on
    field staff computers
  • Administer user access to systems and databases, monitor system and
    application usage;
  • Assist in resolution of IT equipment, telecommunications and power
    problems at the field office by responding to queries, identifying and
    troubleshooting issues and where necessary forwarding unresolved issues to
    the appropriate person;
  • Plan and supervise monthly food and cash distributions ensuring that
    appropriate IT systems and personnel are deployed to support the
    transfers;
  • Maintain electronic documents, statistical databases and IT systems;
  • Provide data analytics expertise, help colleagues to extract,
    analyze and report on information from various data sources in the field
    offices;
  • Assist in training and support of users of technology and systems,
    such as beneficiary biometric verification, audio/videoconferences,
    meetings, databases, registries, LAN and WAN networks, etc;
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme
    (WFP) Business Support Assistant (IT Operations) job placement should hold
    a first university degree obtained from a recognised education institution
    in Information Technology or Computer Science or any IT related field;
  • Three years’ experience supporting IT applications, LANs and WANs is
    required
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
  • Previous experience in supporting small IT offices and IT personnel
    will be an added advantage.
  • Professional certification e.g. CCNA, MCSE are an added advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of the area context (Arua, Gulu, Mbarara),
    knowledge of local language is an added advantage.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and computer software
    packages, such as Microsoft Word.
  • Extensive knowledge of work routines and methods in order to
    complete processes under minimal supervision.
  • Uses tact and courtesy to give and receive information to a wide
    range of individuals.
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and rectify problems
    requiring attention.
  • Ability to offer guidance or basic on-the-job training to more
    junior staff.
  • Language: General
    Service (Headquarters): Fluency (level C) in English language. Fluency
    (level C) or intermediate knowledge (level B) of another official language
    may be required depending on the location of the post or area of
    responsibility. Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN
    language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if
    different.
