About the Company:
The Vision Group incorporated as the New Vision Printing & Publishing Company Limited (NVPPCL), started the business in March 1986. It is a multimedia business housing newspaper, magazines, internet publishing, television, radio broadcasting, commercial printing, advertising and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY 2010/2011).
Job Summary: To produce high quality, informative, compelling and engaging multimedia content across Vision Group platforms and deliver it in formats the audience can consume
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Generation:
- Produce informative content that adheres to editorial design standards and promotes audience engagement.
- Package content in compliance with Vision Group’s house-style, editorial policy and platform audiences to ensure credibility and audience appeal and visually appealing
- Check content and ensure it is free of libel and inaccuracies
Multimedia content generation and audience engagement:
- Contribute to the sports digital and broadcast platforms (radio and TV) as an analyst, commentator or presenter.
- Identify opportunities to engage the audience using different social media platforms such as SMS, Facebook and Twitter.
Content production:
- Copy editing, design and layout of content for print and digital platforms
- Manage production deadlines.
Performance management:
- Contribute to set performance review initiatives (target setting, one-on-ones, quarterly, midterm and annual reviews
- Coach and mentor journalists in order to improve content quality and minimize errors.
- And any other duty as assigned by the Content Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism/Literature in English, English Language/Fine or Industrial Art.
Working Experience:
- 2-4 years working experience in a multimedia company.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Technical Competences:
- Proficient in the use of computer packages: MS Office, Adobe suite or any 3D modelling software.
- Proficient in the English language.
- Experience in managing newsroom operations.
- In-depth understanding of journalism ethics and sports law.
- Vast knowledge of local and foreign sports trends.
- Have a wide and strong network of sports sources, contacts and partners.
- Good sports analyst, commentator or presenter (English and local language platforms).
- A good sense of news judgement
