Job Title:  Senior Manager – Commercial Legal & Governance

Job Summary:  Responsible for safeguarding the legal interests of MTN Mobile Money Limited in all its dealings with third parties with respect to commercial transactions entered into by the company. Ensuring best corporate governance practice for MTN Mobile Money Limited and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Providing legal advise and briefs to management and staff.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Commercial:

  • Advise the company on commercial contractual and legal terms.
  • Provide legal advise to employees on company related matters of a legal nature.
  • Draft CAPEX related contracts/agreements for the company.
  • Represent the company at meetings and negotiations with third parties.
  • Contribute to the development of governing company policies in line with the laws of Uganda.
  • Ensure that governing policies and procedures are followed.
  • Act as a liaison between the company and the company’s external legal advisors and other corporate bodies in Uganda.
  • Follow up on all legal matters including and not limited to litigation.
  • Deal with the day-to-day legal administrative work.

Litigation:

  • Manage all litigation matters involving the company (i.e) ensure that the company is properly represented in actions filed for and against it.
  • Oversee the negotiation and drafting of leases and conveyancing documents and ensure the company’s interests are protected.
  • Oversee the prosecution of fraud cases against third parties in liaison with the government agencies.
  • Manage litigation spend in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Ensure that the company complies with the approved budget.
  • Advise the company on all court related matters and arbitration proceedings that affect the company.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (Honors) from a recognized university.
  • PGD in Legal Practice from LDC
  • Enrolled Advocate

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience, 5 of which must have been as an advocate of the high court of Uganda
  • Experience in Fintech, Banking or Telecom services is preferred or any other related field.
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding of emerging markets.
