Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has been a leading brewer in Uganda since it began operations in 1946. Located in Port Bell – Luzira in the outskirts of Kampala, the brewery is continuously modernized and its operating capacity expanded. The plant has a total brewing capacity of 1.65m hectoliters per year. Bell Lager is the company’s flagship brand having been in the market for over 60 years. Other key Brands include Guinness, Tusker Malt, Pilsner, Senator and Ready to Serve drinks.
Job Summary: The role works closely with the Supply Chain Director, Supply Finance Manager, Agronomy department, Site Managers, Packaging and Brewing Managers, Shift Operations managers, Logistics, External auditors and consultants, approved UBL haulers, Suppliers, Great Lakes Team and EABL Supply.

The UBL Supply Chain Cost base is c USD 110m covering both Beer and Spirit businesses.

Market Complexity:
UBL operates within a developing, complex and challenging environment with increasing levels of competition both in alcohol and from substitute consumer goods categories, as well as tightening legislation. UBL manages GLR (Rwanda, Burundi, DRC) and thus need to have an external lens to those markets.
Leadership Responsibilities:
This position works within the Finance team and has responsibility over interacting with cross-functional teams both internally and externally to UBL. The role has one direct report- Decision Support Analyst- Beer & Spirits
Purpose of Role:
The Decision Support Manager role is part of the UBL Supply Finance Team charged with the overall ownership and oversight of UBL supply accounting. This is through:
Supporting effective decision making, risk mitigation
Management of inventory provision balances and
Providing insightful variance analysis/commentary to key business partners.
The role reports to the Supply Finance Manager and works in a close business partnership with Senior Business partners in the UBL Supply Chain.
About the Role:
As a Finance Business Partner in Supply Chain. This role will proactively partner with the Supply Chain Division responsible for all commercial finance topics (budget, forecasts, analysis and cost optimization). Attending all key Supply Chain senior management team meetings and ensure a strong collaborative working relationship to allow delivery of key financial targets.
Success in this role will require frequent cross-functional collaboration with individuals at all levels of the organization both within Supply and Demand. The Decision Support Manager will excel in the areas of data and visualization, statistics, financial analysis, and reporting. Individuals will provide valuable insights from the data to leadership and partners.
Decision Support Manager will understand the business processes and finance drivers that influence their analysis. Requires competency in change & innovation, strategic thinking, relationship building & influencing, results focus, Brand profitability and communication.
The role will support the UBL Make business operations and invariably EABL Group by driving effective reporting and planning of Beer operations and of Capex reporting and management data to ensure that the business makes informed decisions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Make
- Develop and manage annual budgets for Beer operations
- Support the preparation of financial forecasts and reports to aid decision-making for Beer operations
- Analyze financial performance and variances, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities within the Brewing, beer packaging and supply chain processes.
- Develop and implement financial metrics and KPIs to track cost efficiency.
- Conduct financial risk assessments related to Beer operations.
- Work closely with the make and supply chain teams to optimize processes and improve efficiency.
- Support strategy execution for make by working closely with Source and planning teams
- Monitor and control Make expenses to ensure budget control
- Track & report Make, Margin enhancement and source Productivity initiatives for Beer operations
- Report on Brand profitability for all beer SKUs and provide key insights on brand performance drivers
- Partner with Operational Heads of Departments to understand current and future spend requirements and ensure delivery of operational efficiencies and cost initiatives underpinning financial forecasts.
- Lead reviews of monthly performance and providing guidance and insight to drive decision making.
- Understand and challenge KPIs to be able to articulate key movements in spend and to drive cost efficiencies include process end to end understanding.
- Understand production processes by regular visits to the factory floor and communication with the operations teams.
- Work closely with Source and Agronomy teams in strategy formulation of LRM and Key raw materials
- Support the Marketing and Innovation teams with scenario analyses related to new product development in beer Lead the setting of intercompany selling prices for both finished goods and raw materials
Capex Management
- Ownership of the reporting and analysis of Capex investment results and cash capex.
- Business partnering, develop and maintain capital expenditure budget in collaboration with department heads.
- Review Capex proposals to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and financial constraints.
- Forecast long-term capital requirements based on strategic initiatives and growth projections.
- Conduct detailed financial analyses of Capex projects, including cost benefit analyses, ROI, net present value (NPV), and internal rate of return (IRR).
- Analyze historical Capex spending trends to identify areas for cost optimization.
- Evaluate potential risks and sensitivities associated with Capex investments.
- Track ongoing capital projects to ensure they stay within approved budgets and timelines.
- Provide regular reporting on Capex performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
- Investigate variances between budgeted and actual expenditures and recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with operations, engineering, and procurement teams to validate project costs and timelines.
- Work with finance teams to ensure proper accounting and depreciation of capital assets.
- Ensure all Capex projects adhere to internal financial controls and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparing for audits related to Capex spending.
Miscellaneous
- Assist the Supply Finance Manager in other relevant tasks as assigned
- Provide oversight over the Decision Support analyst- Beer & Spirits deliverables.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting/ Finance/Procurement & Supply chain.
- CIMA, CPA or ACCA.
Experience:
- Minimum three years’ experience in a large, reputable, commercial organization
- Knowledge of computer packages such as MS Excel, Word, Sun system, Sales Order Process (SOP) and Purchase Order Process (POP), Inventory control (IC).
