About the Company:
Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.
Job Summary: The Water Quality Technician monitors, analyses, and reports water quality parameters of the lake, hatchery, and effluent water. The incumbent performs basic maintenance and calibration of equipment in line with the SOPs. This role is critical for maintaining fish health, optimizing production outcomes, and upholding environmental compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor water quality parameters of the hatchery, lake, and effluent water, and collect samples for subsequent laboratory analysis.
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of water quality equipment.
- Analyse, interpret and report water quality data with rigorous attention to accuracy.
- Identify potential water quality issues and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Identify seasonal variations in environmental factors and develop an early warning system in liaison with production for better planning.
- Provide support for research activities as stipulated by the ongoing research project.
- Perform routine housekeeping of the laboratory to ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Team Lead to support the team’s goals.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, BSC in Chemistry, BSC in Water Resources Management, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in aquaculture or water quality monitoring.
- Ability to collect, analyze and interpret water quality data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Organised, detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to HSE standards
