Background
The GREENER Project is committed to building the socio-economic resilience of communities, especially women, in the Albertine Rift region by promoting sustainable energy practices. This initiative focuses on reducing traditional biomass reliance and fostering community leadership in energy conservation through the dissemination of the Rocket Mud Stove (RMS). Training Energy Extension Volunteers (EEVs) in 41 villages is a pivotal part of this project to ensure effective community outreach, needs assessments, and sustained technology adoption.
Purpose of the Training
This training aims to prepare 82 EEVs (two representatives per village) to act as community advocates for energy conservation and RMS usage. The comprehensive training will enhance their capacity in leadership, community mobilization, and technical skills related to RMS construction and maintenance.
Objectives
- Equip EEVs with the knowledge and practical skills for energy conservation and RMS technology.
- Strengthen the leadership and community mobilization capabilities of EEVs to effectively engage community stakeholders.
- Prepare EEVs to conduct household-level energy needs assessments and facilitate sustained adoption of RMS.
Scope of Work
The trainer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Designing and Delivering Training Content: Develop a comprehensive curriculum encompassing energy conservation principles, RMS construction and usage, and community mobilization techniques.
- Practical Demonstrations: Lead hands-on sessions to teach EEVs how to construct, maintain, and utilize RMS.
- Community Engagement Strategy: Equip EEVs with strategies to overcome local misconceptions, facilitate community meetings, and foster collaboration with leaders and CBOs.
- Materials Development: Prepare manuals, visual aids, and outreach materials, ensuring alignment with local contexts.
- Pre- and Post-Training Evaluations: Conduct assessments to gauge knowledge retention and readiness for community outreach.
Methodology
The training approach should be participatory, including:
- Interactive Sessions: Group discussions, Q&A, role-playing, and practice scenarios.
- Hands-On RMS Training: Demonstrating the step-by-step construction and practical usage of RMS.
- Leadership and Mobilization Workshops: Activities to build confidence in conducting community meetings and engaging stakeholders.
- Follow-Up Strategy Guidance: Creating structured workplans for post-training activities.
Deliverables
- A detailed training report summarizing content delivered, participant feedback, and key recommendations.
- Documented attendance sheets for each training day.
- Completed training manuals and tailored outreach support materials.
- Individual workplans developed by EEVs for community mobilization post-training.
- Pre- and post-training evaluation results.
Timeline
Training sessions will take place from November 7-8, 2024, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily. Final reporting and deliverables are expected within two weeks post-training.
Qualifications and Experience Required
The selected trainer should have:
- Proven experience in community-based training on energy conservation and sustainable technologies.
- Technical expertise in energy-efficient cookstove technologies, particularly the Rocket Mud Stove.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with experience in engaging local communities effectively.
Reporting and Supervision
The trainer will report to the JGI Program Manager and liaise closely with relevant project team members and stakeholders. Regular communication will be maintained throughout.
Resource Support
JGI will provide logistical support, including training venues and pre-reviewed training materials.
The trainer is expected to coordinate closely with JGI staff for a seamless delivery.
