About Organisation:
Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) is a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda. KSL boasts of two sugar estates, one in Kakira – Jinja and the other in Kayunga.
Job Summary: The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising all machine shop activities to ensure efficient task allocation, quality control, proper utilization of resources, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Task Allocation
- Monitor attendance and punctuality of subordinate staff to ensure efficient performance.
- Receive job orders, identify material requirements, and prepare requisitions for approval.
- Inspect intricate completed jobs to ensure satisfactory workmanship.
- Allocate tasks to staff and provide necessary technical guidance and backup.
- Supervise on-the-job training programs in collaboration with the Technical Training Officer.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure the availability of required technical tools and instruments for task execution.
- Routinely inspect and maintain shop equipment (e.g., lathes, shapers, mills, grinders) to ensure accuracy.
- Verify the quality and tolerances of spare parts used in the machine shop.
Record Keeping and Housekeeping
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and other production activities for control purposes.
- Prepare and submit routine and ad hoc reports to the Workshop Superintendent.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the working environment and promote good housekeeping practices.
Safety and Health Enforcement
- Adhere to and enforce company policies on safety, health, and the environment among subordinates.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering or Workshop Technology from a recognized institution.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in lathe, milling, and shaping within a large mechanical workshop.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in lathe, milling, and shaping operations, as well as lubrication and servicing.
Supervisory Skills:
- Strong ability to manage and guide a team effectively.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Proficiency in communication for collaboration and effective leadership.
Organizational Skills:
- Ability to maintain detailed records, organize workflow, and manage resources
