Since its inception in 2012, Jungle Medical Missions Uganda has been at the forefront in accelerating the provision of access to free and highly subsidized quality health care services to less privileged people in highly critical and vulnerable communities, mainly in Uganda and some parts of East Africa.
Job Summary: The Midwife will be responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to pregnant mothers, guiding them through the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. You will work collaboratively with healthcare teams to ensure the well-being of both mothers and newborns, while also offering educational support and counseling.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support mothers during Labor and childbirth, providing emotional and physical assistance.
- Monitor the progress of Labor and assess the well-being of both mother and baby.
- Administer pain relief measures and collaborate with the doctors if medical interventions are required.
- Ensure a safe and positive birthing experience for the mother.
- Conduct regular prenatal check-ups to monitor the health of pregnant women.
- Perform physical examinations and order diagnostic tests as needed.
- Provide information and counselling on nutrition, exercise, and prenatal health.
- Address any concerns or complications that may arise during pregnancy.
- Monitor and provide care for mothers and newborns in the postpartum period.
- Offer breastfeeding support and guidance on infant care after child birth.
- Identify and address any postpartum complications or issues.
- Provide emotional support during the postpartum period.
- Educate women and their families on family planning options.
- Provide counselling on reproductive health and contraception.
- Support women in making informed decisions about their reproductive health.
- Offer comprehensive education on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
- Provide emotional support and counselling throughout the maternity care process.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care.
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care.
- Facilitate smooth communication and collaboration among healthcare team members.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient.
- Document prenatal care, labour and delivery details, and postpartum information.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards for record-keeping.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies during childbirth and take appropriate actions.
- Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure timely and effective emergency care.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in midwifery, obstetrics, and related fields.
- Any other duties will be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Diploma in midwifery
- Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holds current practicing license.
- Two years working experience as a Midwife.
- Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all the multi-disciplinary team, patients and relatives.
- Competent knowledge and skills within general nursing care.
