Job Title:  Ambulance Driver

Since its inception in 2012, Jungle Medical Missions Uganda has been at the forefront in accelerating the provision of access to free and highly subsidized quality health care services to less privileged people in highly critical and vulnerable communities, mainly in Uganda and some parts of East Africa.

Job Summary:  The Ambulance Driver will be responsible for operating and driving the ambulance in a safe, efficient, and timely manner to transport patients, medical staff, and equipment between the scene of an emergency and medical facilities. The role involves assisting paramedics or emergency medical technicians in patient care and ensuring the proper maintenance of the ambulance and equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate the ambulance in accordance with traffic laws, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of patients and medical personnel.
• Navigate the most efficient routes to reach the destination promptly, especially in emergency situations.
• Ensure the ambulance is always fueled, stocked, and ready for immediate utilization.
• Coordinate with dispatch and medical personnel to ensure timely response and smooth operations.
• Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and medical staff to ensure smooth transitions during transport.
• Carrying out basic maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle
• Reporting major technical mechanical faults to the supervising officer
• Maintaining basic records regarding the vehicle as instructed
• Ensuring the safety of the vehicle while on duty
• Any other duties will be assigned from time to time

Key performance indicators

• Client /patient experience
• Incidence rates
• Turnaround time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• Uganda certificate of education (UCE) with pass in English language
• Certificate in defensive driving.
• Valid Driving permit of Class C or D.
• Basic knowledge if mechanical and vehicle maintenance;
• Clean driving record;
• Time management; and
