About US:

Shared Action Africa targets refugee populations and host communities under its integrated family planning project implemented in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District in Uganda. The settlement hosts over 180,000 Refuges from Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, and South Sudan. The project aims at improving access to modern short-term, long-term and permanent family planning methods for and men of reproductive age in Nakivale refugee settlement and host communities in Isingiro district in Uganda. To achieve its objectives, the project will collaborate with, peer agencies, government bodies and community based organizations that provide complementary services (financial and energy) to improve access to sexual and reproductive health services by refugee populations and host communities in Nakivale and Oruchinga Refugee Settlement.

 

Job Summary:  The Communications Officer will develop and implement communication strategies that enhance Shared Action Africa’s visibility and strengthen engagement with stakeholders. This role will focus on creating and disseminating compelling content, managing digital platforms, and ensuring consistent branding across all communication materials.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Development

  • Create high-quality content for newsletters, social media, press releases, blog posts, and other communication materials.
  • Develop success stories and case studies that showcase the impact of Shared Action Africa’s programs.
  • Coordinate photography and videography to document project activities and events.

Digital and Social Media Management

  • Manage and grow the organization’s presence on social media platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement.
  • Regularly update and maintain the organization’s website with relevant and engaging content.
  • Monitor digital analytics and provide reports on the performance of online platforms.

Media Relations

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local and international media outlets.
  • Draft press releases and coordinate media coverage for key events and initiatives.
  • Respond to media inquiries and manage communication during crises.

Branding and Messaging

  • Ensure all communication materials align with Shared Action Africa’s branding guidelines.
  • Support the development of communication tools, such as brochures, fact sheets, and reports.
  • Maintain a consistent and professional tone in all external communications.

Internal Communications

  • Collaborate with program teams to gather content and updates for external communication.
  • Support the development of internal newsletters to keep staff informed and engaged.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track communication activities and measure their impact against organizational goals.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on communication efforts.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a communications role, preferably in the nonprofit or development sector.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in managing websites and social media platforms.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative mindset.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Familiarity with issues related to women’s empowerment, SRHR, and refugee communities is an asset.
