Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, situated in Matugga, Wakiso district, Uganda, shall produce high-quality medicines across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

 

Job Summary:   Dei Group, a Plant is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Miller. The Assistant Miller supports the Head Miller in the daily operations of the milling process, ensuring efficient production and high-quality output. This role involves operating milling machinery, monitoring production, performing basic maintenance, and adhering to quality and safety standards. The Assistant Miller plays an important role in achieving production targets, maintaining consistency in product quality, and upholding workplace safety.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Miller in the setup, operation, and adjustment of milling machinery and equipment.
  • Monitor the milling process to ensure that product quality meets established standards, adjusting settings as necessary under supervision.
  • Prepare and organize raw materials, such as wheat or other grains, ensuring they are processed according to production requirements.
  • Follow production schedules to meet output targets efficiently and timely.
  • Conduct routine quality checks, including sampling, weighing, and moisture testing, to ensure product consistency.
  • Report any quality issues or deviations from standards to the Head Miller for immediate corrective action.
  • Record test results and any adjustments made during production to maintain accurate documentation of quality control.
  • Assist in the regular cleaning and maintenance of milling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Identify and report minor mechanical issues to the maintenance team for repairs or preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in equipment cleaning and inspection to maintain hygiene and operational standards, especially for food-grade production.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety and health regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe operating procedures.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and actively contribute to a safe working environment by identifying potential hazards.
  • Follow established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and company policies related to food safety and hygiene.
  • Maintain accurate records of production data, including production volumes, quality control checks, and downtime.
  • Report daily production metrics, including issues encountered during the shift, to the Head Miller.
  • Assist in preparing production reports to help the Head Miller track performance against targets.
  • Work closely with other millers and production team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Support the Head Miller in training new operators on equipment use, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to facilitate a productive and cohesive work environment.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • Diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in a manufacturing, mechanical operations, or a related field is preferred
  • Certification or coursework in milling, food processing, or industrial machinery operation is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or milling environment, preferably in food processing or grain milling.
  • Prior experience with milling equipment, quality control processes, or machinery maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with safety and quality standards in a production environment, especially in food-grade manufacturing, is advantageous.

Job knowledge:

  • Understanding of basic milling techniques, equipment operations, and production flow.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols related to machinery operation, food grade production and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Basic knowledge of quality control methods, such as sampling, weighing, and moisture testing, to ensure product consistency.
  • Understanding of GMP principles for maintaining hygiene and quality in food-grade production environments.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance procedures, such as equipment cleaning and minor adjustments, to keep milling machinery in good working order.
  • Evaluations: (This may be tested)
  • Language: English level IV (Advanced knowledge) Reading/ Writing/Speaking is required.

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong understanding of machinery and equipment with the ability to make basic adjustments and perform minor troubleshooting.
  • High level of accuracy in monitoring and adjusting the milling process to maintain consistent product quality.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to identify production issues and propose practical solutions to minimize downtime or quality deviations.
  • Effective at managing time and tasks to ensure all production targets and quality standards are met.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for reporting production status, collaborating with team members, and following instructions accurately.
