Job Summary: The senior Instrumentation Technician
- Is responsible for maintenance execution and operations within his/her field of competence;
- Ensures that maintenance operations under his/her responsibility are carried out in strict accordance with COMPANY’s current safety rules and operating procedures and in accordance with standard industry practice, thereby guaranteeing the quality of maintenance operations, within its field, carried out on site by CONTRACTOR;
- Guarantees a good level of availability of the equipment under its responsibility on production sites;
- Plays a predominant role in the transfer of skills to personnel undergoing training by mentoring on site.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
HSE
- Ensures HSE policy fulfillment during its activities;
- Have a good understanding of COMPANY and CONTRACTOR HSE rules;
- Assists COMPANY Supervisors on field to spread the HSE policies and to put the rules in place;
- Ensures that the team under its responsibility has well understood group policies and apply them;
- Assist COMPANY supervisor to write on a daily basic risks’ analysis for specific intervention;
- Participate to safety talk before and after intervention;
- Ensures that employees under its responsibility have the required habilitation;
- Participates to key procedure audits in proactive manner;
- Respects the waste management policy in force on site, verifying that all activities performed under its own responsibility, comply with it, without any exceptions;
- Applies Carbon Footprint Reduction guidelines as set up by CONTRACTOR and in line with COMPANY philosophy;
- Be aware and respectful of Cyber security COMPANY protocols if using COMPANY PCs / Industrial System / connected to COMPANY network.
Operations
- Performs on-site maintenance operations during normal shifts and emergencies which are placed under his/her Team’s responsibility;
- Directs the Instrumentation Maintenance Team to assist the Specialists working under Specific Maintenance Contracts;
- Ensures that COMPANY’s HSE regulations are respected (especially procedures related to Work
- Permits), as well as approved operating procedures and standard industry practice during the performance of maintenance operations placed under its responsibility;
- Ensures that all Maintenance and repairs to plant and equipment are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in strict compliance with COMPANY operating procedures and any relevant statutory legislation in order to maintain all such equipment in sound and safe operating condition
- Lead the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities on all field instrumentation and process control loops as per maintenance procedures and troubleshooting of instrumentation and process control system problems and reinstating the system to ensure the integrity of the process controls for continuous and smooth operations of the production and processing facilities;
- Lead the Implementation of regular maintenance and inspection on Tilenga CPF and Wells Instruments to ensure an effective Plant Optimization and provide maximum value for operation;
- Lead the functional and calibration checks of Fire & Gas and Emergency Shutdown Systems/equipment to ensure operability and availability of the safeguarding systems;
- Lead the maintenance PSV / control valves calibration and controller tuning to ensure the optimum control process as per maintenance procedures;
- Lead instrumentation & control Systems maintenance activities (preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance) in a cohesive, efficient & safe manner to ensure maximum plant uptime and to support sustainable production;
- Lead the execution of maintenance and repair works and inspection activities for all instrumentation & control Systems in Tilenga facilities not limited to Equipment Control Systems, Fiscal Metering Systems, Fire & Gas Systems (FGS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Instrument Air Compressors and Field Devices;
- Writes the technical reports related to the Instrumentation Maintenance field;
- Monitors the functioning of systems placed under his/her responsibility;
- Ensures that the transfer of knowledge by mentoring occurs properly within its teams, and actively participates in this activity;
- Participate actively and with positive interactions in the Nationalization process for both Senior Ugandan Technician and Ugandan Technician;
- Coordinate with Trainers for Competencies gap analysis and appropriate Training response;
- Carries out, at COMPANY Supervisor’s request, any intervention within its field of competence;
- Takes in charge the systems under his/her responsibility in case of breakdown until normal operations resume.
Methods
- Identifies recurrent corrective maintenance interventions, analyses them, and suggests improvements on all its perimeter (organisation, operations, maintenance plan & procedure, material quality, diagram, );
- Keeps a critical eye on current preventive maintenance programs and, if need be, suggests improvements;
- Warns support teams of any recurring problems related to the availability or quality of spare parts and suggests improvements and requests modifications.
Quality Assurance
- Verifies the quality of his/her teams’ interventions by frequent on-site checks;
- Ensures that the members of his/her teams have the qualifications, as well as proper behavior and skills required for the tasks entrusted to them and, if need be, suggests corrective measures.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: The holder of this position must have the following educational qualifications and experience:
- Technical Diploma or Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification with specialization in electrical or instrumentation engineering
- 3-5 years’ experience in the maintenance of production installations in oil and gas, power production or manufacturing;
- A good knowledge of the process of oil and gas treatment, installations and a thorough knowledge of the equipment used in oil and gas treatment installations;
Specific professional knowledge and experience:
- CMMS experience and know-how: Mainly to be familiar with WP/WR system;
- knowledge and experience in using distributed control systems
- SIF/SIL functions and Elec LV certification.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams;
- Pride in its work, ability to maintain good relations with colleagues and others;
- Working language: English.
- Must have a proven sense of responsibility & must be rigorous and methodical in its approach to operations;
- Must be able to anticipate and analyse operational and technical problems;
- must have proven ability as a leader of a multinational team;
- Be perfectly competent and independent in his/her field, he must show common sense and organisational ability;
- The ability to demonstrate natural authority, founded on his/her abilities and on the trust he/she has in his/her teams, is essential.
- A good knowledge of the process of oil and gas treatment, and installations and a thorough knowledge of the equipment used in oil and gas treatment installations is an added advantage;
