Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.

 

Job Summary:   Uganda’s national strategic plan prioritizes integration of mental health (MH) services into TB services. The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) received the Community Mental Health Integration with Tuberculosis care in Africa (COMMIT AFRICA) project grant award by USAID. This is 3-year multi country project that IDI will implement in Uganda while partnering with THINK in South Africa, the Union Trust in Zimbabwe and Kibong’oto Infectious Diseases Hospital in Tanzania.

 

The aim of the project is to develop evidence-based and culturally acceptable tools for integration of mental health (MH) care into Tuberculosis (TB) services in the African region and to establish the acceptability and feasibility of using these tools within a proposed framework for care delivery. The post holder will conduct M&E related duties so that the project achieieves the desired goals and objectives.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct M&E assessment of a health intervention research project.
  • Assist with research protocols, and proposal writing evaluating implementation of a health intervention.
  • Provide in put in data collection tools, database development for the pilot project and conduct data analysis of research data.
  • Conduct pilot study monitoring and guidance on achievement of project goals, working closely with the technical lead.
  • Work closely with the IDI regulatory office to ensure that all research protocol ethical approvals and accompanying documents are obtained and regularly updated.
  • Develop and refine M&E indicators related to the realization of the project objectives.
  • Support the development of work plans and activity trackers for the team • Monitor data quality and assess achievements of project targets on the project MEL plan in Uganda and partner countries.
  • Compile periodic project reports for submission to USAID.
  • Any other duties assigned




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in monitoring and evaluation, diploma in clinical medicine or nursing or any health related field in an added advantage
  • Diploma in clinical medicine, nursing, or any other health related field is desirable

Person Specification

  • Desirable Skills & Qualities • At least three years of relevant work experience in a similar position • Good understanding of health research and TB project related work. • Good communication, organization, and management skills • Exhibits a high level of ethical conduct. • Good interpersonal skills and can work in a team. • Has basic computer literacy including word processing, excel, internet, and PowerPoint. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Bachelor’s degree in monitoring and evaluation. • Diploma in clinical medicine, nursing, or any other health related field is desirable
