About the Company:

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.

 

Job Summary:   The Senior Project Officer will be the technical point of contact for program implementation, ensuring adherence to deliverables and timelines. This role involves writing technical reports, monitoring KPIs, and facilitating stakeholder engagements. A bilingual candidate (French and English) is preferred to support IDI’s regionalization strategy.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the GHS department leadership and committees to plan, design, and implement the regional program.
  • Track progress of program implementation in selected countries and participate in regular stakeholder engagement within country partners.
  • Coordinate with other project officers to ensure in-house coordination of various program sections, including scientific teams, logistics, grant/sub-grant management, and periodic reporting.
  • Actively participate in the development of training materials one from Providence practice and systems and provide technical guidance to the implementing partners.
  • Participate in documentation efforts including writing and scoping for literature to support evidence based making on the program the incumbent will also assist in the development and dissemination of findings including scientific reports and manuscripts.
  • develop an external communication plan with stakeholders and the IDI communications function.
  • Liaise with IDI finance and procurement functions to ensure timely requisition and processing of program needs.
  • Work with the Project Manager and M&E focal person to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure that pharmacovigilance activities comply with national and international regulatory standards.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in health sciences or public health, with background training in pharmacy, Medicine, Laboratory Sciences, or a related field.
  • Diploma or advanced certificate in project planning and management in the health sector.

Desirable Skills & Qualities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with fluency in both French and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partners and leadership to achieve program objectives.
  • Strong literature review and data analysis skills.
  • Proven excellence in written communication, including report writing.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and deliverables.
  • Proficiency in standard office software.
  • Ability to work effectively in multinational teams and independently.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and to travel across Africa on short notice.

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in health sciences or public health, with background training in pharmacy, Medicine, Laboratory Sciences, or a related field.
  • Diploma or advanced certificate in project planning and management in the health sector.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of four years of experience in research, particularly in implementation science or research administration.
  • Proficient in using computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) with advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and database packages.
  • Experience handling web-based management systems.
  • Proven ability to coordinate complex programs with a diverse range of partners.
