Job Summary:   The WASH Officer (Sanitation & Hygiene) reports to the WASH Manager for supervision. The WASH Officer (Sanitation & Hygiene) provides technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process. The Officer prepares, manages and implements a variety of technical and administrative tasks, related to the development program, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH output results of the country programme.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Programme Development and Planning: Draft updates and conduct assessments to inform WASH-related outcomes, focusing on community sanitation and hygiene. Support all stages of programming processes and participate in key sector meetings.

Programme Management, Monitoring, and Delivery of Results: Oversee sanitation and hygiene interventions, collaborate with partners, monitor resources, and prepare reports on programme progress.

Technical and Operational Support: Undertake field visits, provide technical support to partners, and report critical issues for timely action.

Networking and Partnership Building: Establish partnerships with stakeholders, share best practices, and draft advocacy materials to promote WASH (sanitation and Hygiene) programmes.

Humanitarian WASH Preparedness and Response: Develop emergency response plans, participate in coordination mechanisms, and ensure readiness for emergency WASH interventions, specifically in sanitation and hygiene.

Innovation, Knowledge Management, and Capacity Building: Support WASH action research, prepare learning products, and conduct training to enhance sector capacity.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering, civil engineering, or another relevant technical field.

Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree is an asset.

Work Experience:

DEVELOPMENTAL:  a minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH and Climate change with emphasis on sanitation and hygiene for developing countries is required.

HUMANITARIAN: WASH, being a key sector for emergency preparedness and response, ability to work on emergency WASH will be an advantage.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required

Desirables:

Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.

Expertise in rural and urban sanitation and hygiene for low- and middle-income countries, including sustainability, CATS and market-based sanitation principles.

Proficiency in rural water supply, focusing on water safety and sustainability.

Ability to integrate WASH-in-Schools and Health Care Facilities into overall programs.

Promoting menstrual hygiene management.

Analyzing and supporting government WASH policies, plans, and strategies.

Conducting budget analysis and advocacy for WASH.

Implementing resilient WASH and climate actions.

Knowledge in humanitarian WASH preparedness, response, recovery, and coordination.

Skills in program/project management, capacity development, knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation.

Understanding of human rights, gender equality, and WASH.
