About Organisation:

Following the signing of the Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in July 1999 between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and five regional States (Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe) in July 1999, the Security Council established the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) by its resolution 1279 of 30 November 1999, initially to plan for the observation of the ceasefire and disengagement of forces and maintain liaison with all parties to the Ceasefire Agreement. Later in a series of resolutions, the Council expanded the mandate of MONUC to the supervision of the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and assigned multiple related additional tasks.

 

Job Summary:   Assist the unit/section’s chief in management, planning and movement of equipment, supplies and personnel to from and within the mission. S/he processes work and related follow up processes in an efficient and timely manner.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   Within limits of delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Prepare material request orders for transfer of inventories.
  • Perform warehouse related transactions in UMOJA and submit weekly reports on total stock holdings.
  • Prepare service entry sheets and other actions within UMOJA and obtain the funding certification.
  • Liaise with relevant departments with respect to verification and processing of invoices.
  • Maintain contact with relevant mission staff with respect to provision, co-ordination, monitoring, and status of transport services.
  • Prepare requisitions and enter applicable systems data to initiate requisition process. Follow up and provide updates of ongoing logistics operations and planning as well as requisition status on a regular basis.
  • Assist staff within the unit with respect to relevant procedures and practices.
  • Record and monitor contract activity.
  • Organize and maintain contract files and unit manuals.
  • Maintain and monitor relevant database (e.g stock levels of various supply items).
  • Generate relevant status reports.
  • Monitor Insurance coverage of UN fleet.
  • Perform other duties as required.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Education: High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Work Experience: At least three years of progressively responsible experience of practical logistics operations or Supply Chain Management related areas is required. One to two years of relevant progressively responsible experience in property management, property control, and asset management is required. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to asset management and familiarity with database management is desirable.
  • Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
