Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Qualitatively document the degree to which the procedures and
  processes specified in the approved standard operating procedures,
  operating manuals and quality manuals are being implemented by the Bureau.
• Continuously and periodically assess the real time implementation of
  an activity or activities to determine conformance to established
  procedures and protocols.
• Schedule and carry out conformance audits to defined system
  requirements to which UNBS accredits to e.g. ISO 17020 and ISO 17065, ISO
  17025, ISO 17021 etc
• Carry out readiness reviews for procedures, personnel, equipment and
  facilities to perform the technical activities planned by the Bureau
• Review operational programs and reporting requirements and ascertain
  that results are in tandem with UNBS’ set goals and objectives;
• Carry out system audits that include multiple processes confined          to specific
• Departments or interrelated and spread across various Departments of
  UNBS
• Review and appraise Quality Assurance plans for different
  Departments in liaison with the head of Quality management and recommend
  improvement to the UNBS’ quality Management System
• Evaluate and recommend corrective action on the extent to which
  factors contributing to uncertainties in operating results are being taken
  into account in developing methods and procedures, training and
  qualification of staff.
• Prepare audit programs for specific audit assignments and prepare
  the attendant audit reports in a timely manner

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• The applicant for the UNBS Senior Internal Auditor – Technical job
  opportunity should hold an Honours Degree in Biology, Food Science, Food
  Technology, Engineering or any other science related qualification from a
  recognized University/Institution
• Experience as a Laboratory Assessor, Quality Systems Auditor,
  Inspector or Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist
• At least five years of working experience with 3 years’ experience
  in Quality Assurance and or Monitoring and Evaluation activities.
• Training in the ISO 19011:2011 – Guidelines for auditing management
  systems
• Lead Auditor Training in Quality Management Systems-requirements
  (ISO 9001:2008)
• Hands-on supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and
  deliver results efficiently with minimal supervision
• Proven people leadership and functional management competencies with
  hands-on skills in Risk Management and internal controls in the functional
  areas
• Must be computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  and the Internet applications
• The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and
  professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs
  to be a team player, an excellent communicator with good oral
  communication and presentation skills.
• Age: Between 30
  and 45 years
