We provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition.
Job Summary: Responsible for contributing to the quality of care by triaging patients through registration, taking immediate action in emergency cases, providing first aid as required and directing patients to correct department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients, inform them about how the facility functions and ensure the availability of a comfortable waiting area for them and attendants
- Ensure good flow of patients to avoid overcrowded rooms and patients standing up for a long time while waiting for their turn
- Bring any patient with an obvious serious medical problem to the attention of the nurse supervisor or Clinical Officer
- Collaborate with Data Clerks to complete patient registration forms in accordance with MTI protocol and maintain files in good condition; ensure confidentiality of patient data
- Monitor vital signs, dress wounds, administer injections and check vaccination status of children less than 5 years old
- Assist in maintaining a clean environment in the triage unit
- Participate in health education of patient and attendant as needed
- Support in family planning, immunization services, and dispensing medicine as requested
- Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery is required
- Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council is required
- Valid practising license is required
Experience
- Minimum 6 months of experience in triage or nursing activities is required
- Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage
Knowledge
- Knowledge of triage practices and first aid
- Knowledge of hygiene management and IPC protocol
Skills
- Skilled in administering first aid, dressing wounds and monitoring vital signs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A good command of both written and spoken English
Abilities
- Ability to treat all patients and staff with respect, without prejudice
- Ability to provide high quality, ethical, compassionate care that places the needs of the patient first
- Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy and maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in a busy triage unit
- Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
