Medical Training Officer
About US:
Department of
Operational Support was established to provide operational support to entities
across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from
headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. DSA oversees
a range of specialized or cross-cutting operational capacities. A large part of
its responsibilities is to support start-up, surge, transition and liquidation
requirements and to exercise authority on behalf of entities to which authority
has not been granted owing to a lack of capacity or from which authority has
been temporarily withdrawn.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with trainers to ensure that an integrated approach to
training is developed and that the training in United Nations Field
Medical Assistant Course (UNFMAC) and UN Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life
Support Course (UNBATLS) including the cascade training programme of
future Master Trainers training courses is delivered/implemented. This
includes meeting of all on-site training requirements for the conduct of
the training. - Keenly monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the training,
learning and development activities to ensure the activities are in line
with the training plan/guidelines. - Provides advisory services to programme manager, trainers and
trainees on training matters/issues arising. - Prepares relevant reports including evaluation of trainers’
performance. - Identifies forthcoming training requirements, in collaboration with
programme manager and trainers, and develops strategies to meet them. - Develops tools and participates in the assessment of training needs,
trainers and collation of required inputs. - Provides inputs into the preparation and monitoring of the training
development plan and budget. - Processes training proposals and requests and follows up with
training focal point to ensure that training is conducted according to the
plan. - Identifies risks and develops the risk register.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations Department of Operational
Support (DOS) Medical Training Officer job opportunity must hold an
advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent degree) in health care
or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two
additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the
advanced university degree. - Certification in medical training is desirable.
- At least five years of progressively responsible medical experience
is required. Three years of progressively responsible experience in a
training-related environment is required. - Experience with the presentation of training modules in your area of
specialty desirable. - Experience in implementing the United Nations medical policy or that
of a similar international organization is desirable. - Languages: fluency
in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official
language is an advantage.

Knowledge of medical training courses related to peacekeeping and ability
to coordinate the implementation of a variety of medical courses. Ability
to apply concepts and approaches relevant to training and project
management. Ability to apply various United Nations administrative rules

independent research and analysis and use of research sources, including
electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Ability
