About US:

Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and monitor implementation of programs for the verification
    of weights and measures or volume and flow.
  • Monitor the measurement traceability of working standards of the section.
  • Provide direction and guidance to Legal Metrologists in verification
    of weights and measures or volume and flow activities
  • Prepare investigations for filing with the Resident State Attorney
  • Provide technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and all stakeholders in line
    with verification requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data base for all verifiable weights and
    measures or volume and flow activities.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the UNBS Senior Legal Metrologist job opportunity
    should hold a post graduate qualification in Physics or Mechanical
    Engineering or any other engineering qualification from a recognized
    University/Institution
  • Possession of Honours degree in Physics or Mechanical Engineering
    from a recognized University/Institution
  • Must have at least 5 years of prior experience in Standards, Quality
    Assurance, or quality control, Standards Development or Laboratory Testing
  • Certificate in Investigations and prosecution as an added advantage
  • Training in ISO 9001 is an added advantage
  • Hands-on supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and
    deliver results efficiently with minimal supervision
  • The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and
    professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs
    to be a team player, an excellent communicator with good oral
    communication and presentation skills.
  • Age: Between 30
    and 45 years
