Job Summary: The CEO will provide strategic leadership to drive sustainable growth, profitability, and long-term value creation for Uganda Baati Limited (UBL). The role carries full P&L accountability and is responsible for business strategy, commercial performance, stakeholder engagement, governance, operational excellence, and talent development. The successful candidate will strengthen market leadership, foster a high-performance culture, ensure compliance with Group standards, and deliver sustainable shareholder value while aligning UBL’s strategic objectives with the broader Safal Group vision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide overall strategic leadership and direction to the business, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, and long term value creation, fully aligned with the Safal Group’s vision, mission, objectives, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the annual and multi year strategic and business planning process, ensuring full alignment with the Group BPP and 5 Year Strategic Plan, and driving disciplined performance management across all business functions.
- Own the full P&L, ensuring revenue growth, margin expansion, cost productivity, and cashflow discipline, in alignment with Group financial governance and scorecard expectations.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, authorities, regulators, relevant government departments and agencies, local authorities, industry bodies, key decision- makers and other stakeholders to strengthen market leadership and support the Group’s long term strategic direction.
- Lead holistic commercial and market strategy including pricing, channels, customer experience, brand positioning, and market development, aligned with Regional CEO and Group Marketing & Portfolio guidelines.
- Drive customer engagement strategy, including key account management, customer experience, CRM effectiveness, and ecosystem development (architects, engineers, artisans), while Commercial teams handle operational delivery.
- Champion programs along with the team ensuring the business remains competitive and aligned with Group Commercial, Financial, HR, Marketing, Manufacturing and Technology frameworks.
- Oversee working capital health by ensuring effective credit governance, risk control, and debtor performance, in collaboration with Finance, Commercial, and Group frameworks.
- Act as the Company’s chief external representative, negotiating strategic partnerships, major projects, and key contracts to maximize long term value creation and competitive advantage.
- Ensure accurate, timely financial and operational reporting to Board, Group, Regional leadership, and statutory bodies, compliant with governance and audit requirements.
- Oversee enterprise risk management, governance, health & safety oversight, and statutory compliance, ensuring full alignment with Group frameworks;
- Promote an inclusive, ethical, and values driven culture, ensuring alignment with Group HR policies and governance frameworks.
- Provide enterprise leadership that fosters a high performance, values driven culture, ensuring talent development, leadership capability, and succession planning.
- Work closely with Head of Operations and provide leadership support.
- Provide strategic oversight on CAPEX prioritization, asset investments, and long-term operational reliability.
- Budgetary responsibilities:
- Monitor and control the company budget to ensure that all financial and business objectives are met.
- Procurement responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Supply Chain Team and Group Procurement Manager ensure diligence across all relevant Procurement activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Business, or Management is an added advantage.
Experience
- 20+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.
- At least 10 years in a senior business leadership role with full P&L accountability within a Group or multinational environment.
- Proven experience leading businesses with annual revenues exceeding USD 150 million .
- Strategic leadership and commercial acumen.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Proven ability to drive transformation and business growth.
- Decision-making under ambiguity and strong problem-solving capability.
- Talent development, succession planning, and team leadership.
