Job Title: Coffee Quality Controller

About Organisation:
Emalga is an East African exporter of conventional and organic dry commodities — chia, sesame, Robusta coffee, cocoa, macadamia kernels and avocado oil — with offices in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Grade and evaluate green Robusta at our Kampala warehouse: moisture, defect counts, screen retention, out-turn and cup/liquor quality
- Approve or reject every purchase and every export lot — your signature is the release
- Run sampling, pre-shipment inspection and sealed-sample retention for every container
- Maintain clean, complete QC records that stand up to buyer audits and certification inspections
- Work daily with our sourcing, processing and export teams; flag quality trends from the field early
- Support quality documentation for shipments (inspection reports, quality certificates) together with our export team
- Help build our QC procedures into a documented system as we grow
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Robusta grader training or similar certification
- Experience with organic or other certified supply chains and their audit requirements
- Knowledge of UCDA export procedures
- Solid hands-on experience in green coffee quality control — with an exporter, a grading laboratory, or a similar operation
- Confident use of moisture meters, screen sets and defect grading; experience cupping/liquoring Robusta
- Disciplined record-keeping and honest reporting — you write down what the sample shows, not what anyone hopes
- The backbone to reject a lot under commercial pressure
- Based in Kampala or ready to relocate; fluent English
