Job Title: Senior Maintenance Engineering Officer

About Organisation:
National Medical Stores (NMS) is an autonomous government parastatal in Uganda mandated to procure, store, and distribute essential medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities across the country. Established by an Act of Parliament in 1993, NMS ensures that government-owned health units—including the army, police, and prisons—have consistent access to life-saving healthcare commodities and vaccines.
Job Summary: To manage the repair and maintenance of NMS Fleet, warehouse equipment, cold chain equipment and the oxygen plant.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate repair and maintenance of the NMS Fleet, warehouse equipment and cold chain equipment at all levels of the vaccines supply chain across the country.
- Provide support for creation, coordination and implementation of maintenance best practices, strategies, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
- Procure and safe keep spare stock for NMS Fleet, warehouse equipment and cold chain equipment.
- Design and plan all repairs and installation activities
- Identify and implement a proactive maintenance strategy that ensures efficient operations
- Develop and maintain a maintenance schedule for fleet and mechanical installations
- Collaborate with different teams and stakeholders within and outside the NMS.
- Supervise maintenance staff for efficient operations of the section
- Identify any risks noted during execution of duties and formally report to the immediate supervisor.
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honor’s Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, or related field
- A postgraduate diploma is an added advantage
