ActionAid International Uganda (AAIU) is a Ugandan national development organization, affiliated with ActionAid International- a global federation of independent members and national programs working in 47 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas for a just and sustainable world. We have worked in Uganda since 1982. In Uganda, we have a physical presence in 15 districts, in addition to collaborative work with our partners, reaching out to 39 districts, with a deliberate focus on districts where the poor and vulnerable persons are concentrated.

Job Summary: The role of this job is to provide independent and objective assurance to the Country Management Team and the Board on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management systems, and governance processes, while ensuring that organizational policies are followed and that operations remain compliant and well-designed. The role supports the Finance & Audit Committee and the Board by ensuring organizational processes are well-designed, compliant, and aligned with best practices.

The role provides independent assurance to the Finance & Audit Committee and the Board by assessing whether AAIU’s risk management, internal controls, governance processes, and operational systems are properly designed, compliant, and functioning effectively. It supports the Board’s oversight mandate by promoting ethical conduct and strengthening a culture of accountability across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement an annual risk-based internal audit plan.
• Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, systems, and processes.
• Conduct independent audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews across AAIU and partner operations.
• Coordinate audits with external auditors and ActionAid International’s Internal Audit function.
• Maintain and update the organisational Risk Register.
• Prepare audit reports and keep proper audit documentation.
• Conduct annual verification of fixed assets.
• Support the periodic review of internal audit policies, standards, and procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Master’s degree in Accounting/Auditing or ACCA
• Details of experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in auditing or accounting
• Knowledge, skills and competences
• Strong knowledge of risk management, financial systems (including SUN), and internal controls.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
• High professional integrity, confidentiality, and objectivity.
