Job Summary: To maintain a clean, safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment throughout the hospital by performing housekeeping and sanitation duties in accordance with established hospital standards, infection prevention and control guidelines, and health and safety regulations. The Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for ensuring that patient care areas, offices, corridors, washrooms, and other hospital facilities are kept clean and orderly, thereby supporting quality patient care, staff wellbeing, and a positive hospital experience for patients and visitors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and maintain patient rooms, wards, offices, corridors, waiting areas, washrooms, and other hospital premises to the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, polish, and disinfect floors, furniture, fixtures, and equipment in assigned areas.
- Ensure patient care areas are clean, safe, and conducive to patient recovery and comfort.
- Clean, sanitize, and replenish washrooms with soap, toilet paper, hand towels, and other necessary supplies.
- Collect, segregate, and dispose of general and clinical waste in accordance with hospital waste management and infection control procedures.
- Make beds and replace bed linen as required, ensuring a clean and comfortable environment for patients.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, hazards, or repair needs observed within the hospital premises.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly to minimize the risk of infection transmission.
- Ensure cleaning equipment and supplies are used correctly, stored safely, and maintained in good condition.
- Replenish cleaning materials and report shortages to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation and cleaning of rooms before patient admissions and after patient discharge.
- Respond promptly to spillages, accidents, and emergency cleaning requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in staff areas, meeting rooms, and public spaces.
- Support laundry, linen distribution, and other housekeeping-related duties when required.
- Adhere to hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and departmental procedures at all times.
- Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, and courtesy when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Participate in training programs, meetings, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of O’ level certificate. Certificate in Housekeeping, Hospitality, or a related field is an added advantage.
- At least 1 year of housekeeping or cleaning experience in a hospital, hotel, or similar institution.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment is an added advantage.
- Training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is desirable.
