Job Summary: The Communications Officer will report to the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator and work in close collaboration with respective program workstreams to support in conceptualizing, planning and implementing various communications products. The Communications Officer will support the design and implementation of demand-driven multimedia and communications resources and products in line with the overall Country program outcomes, specifically communication needs for the new and emergency projects. The position will support external and internal communications, media engagement, content collection (including basic photography and videography), basic graphic design, materials development and vendor coordination. The role will also support development of newsletters, social media and other relevant content for different platforms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and distribute various types of content, including material for a website, press releases, marketing material and other types of content that take the message to the public.
- Conduct client interviews, collect success stories, and provide multimedia coverage at project events for dissemination to various audiences and reports.
- Develop and disseminate regular project update briefs and sitreps.
- Create and produce content for the country quarterly newsletter and other publications.
- Support the development of various materials and respective messaging.
- Coordinate with vendors and staff for production and dissemination of respective communications and visibility materials.
- Regularly meet with and conduct interviews with media personnel.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with journalists in different media outlets.
- Maintain a database of media outlets and the IRC’s mailing list.
- Any other task assigned by the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Hold a degree in Communications, Marketing & Public Relations, Mass communications, International Relations, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working in communications and marketing, media, journalism, advocacy, or in closely related external relations contexts.
- Good technical affinity for media contexts and knowledge of a range of multimedia, web, and digital tools.
- Good writing, editing and social media management, photography skills.
